There are no clear reasons given in the budget document where these cost increases are published, so the reasons for these increases is not obvious—given the low CPI we’ve beenexperiencing during the current recession.

The following questions come to mind:
Will these rather large price increases be imposed on Palo Alto residents on ayearly basis, going forward into the future?
Why are these increases so large?
What is the actual cost to the Fire Department for providing these services?
Is the price charged Palo Altans for EMS service proportional to the cost?
Is there a point where the costs for PA.FireDepartment EMS will be too expensivefor healthcare providers to fully fund?
How much of these high costs are actually “overhead”?
How will private sector EMS services be priced over this twenty-year timeframe?
