A WORD
FRailI
OUR CHAIRMANIt's been a long time since most of us have been able to say "Hi"to each other. Many have been lucky in seeing special friends frequent-ly ••••lots of reunions have been occuring through Red Cross and D.P.C.activities. Larger meetings have been effected through the new andstrong chapter organizations. Amazingly enough Texas and Californiaare leading in membership and activity. The Order of Fifinella hascome a long way from the seed of an idea in a few hot-to-go-heads:Bally says that the day we have our first National Convention willbe "THE" day. It should not be too far away with the settlement of thepeace. As individuals, and as a group, we will be able to concentrateour thinking and efforts toward the accomplishing of the purposefulrealization of a sound peace for our world and the world henceforth. We have the essential structure for an active organization. Wecan do with it, that which you will. We need the continued eagersupport of all. There are many basic problems of policy that shouldhave a definite vote before action is taken. Whether or not we affili-ate with the National Aeronautics Association, is primarily up to themempership. Should we attempt to affiliate with Servicewomen's veter-ans' groups? The projected plan to attain veterans' stetus for WASPS needs care-ful consideration and strong backing. As you are no doubt aware, thereis proposed legislation to provide such status for several civiliangroups. Let's be extremely careful in our analysis of our relativeposition and NEED for such action before we begin to agitate or demand.Miss Eileen Evans, 44-W~3, is Chairman of the Project Committee ofthe Southern California Chapter, which is inVEstigating the need of ex-Wasps for this expenditure, and the possibilities of attaining thisstatus through legislative action. Write to her about your point ofview.A special vote of sincere appreciation to Hally for the wonderfulmanner in which she has maintained the high standard of proceedure andorganization on which we had planned. She has spent many months sincethe Advisory Council voted her Business Manager, building a solid, working, legal organization. Those of us who have hoped that the "Orde! of Fifinella" might growto be something more than a sit-by-the-fire collection of females, aregrateful for the intelligent and active cooperat ion of tho se who havepitched in on the unglamourous beginning work. The solid and thoughtfulresponse of the ex-WASPs, from whom we have asked help bas built some-thing fine from which to go forward, toward sincere and purposefulaccomplishment. If we can maintain our present cooperation from all of you, we willbe able to utilize "thetraining and experiences we gained through ourwork and from our leadership in the Wasps toward a purposeful goal.ClaraJo :Marsh
