The Cover This Month

Equipped with new 3500-horsepower engines, givingthe big ship more than three times the power of a Diesel rail-wa:)' locomotive, the Constitution has taken off repeatedly aftera run o:fless than 2000 feet carrying a gross weight of as muchas 184,000 pounds. Two of the giant Consti'tutions are underconstruction at Lockheed for delivery to the United StatesNavy late in 1948. The big ship will carry 180 passengers andhas a range of 6300 miles. It is 'the largest airplane of anytype on order by the Nav~'. More than 50 test flights havebeen made during the first year of testing of the big ship.
