Ideas for integrating Technology into Language Arts and Math
Sample Writing Goals1.Students will be able to revise/edit a passage (story, composition, etc…) using thespelling and grammar check editing tools in Microsoft Word.One way to do this: Create a Word template with an easy to read passage with errors.Have students open the document and using direct instruction, as a class, go through theediting tools (red and green underlines, using the spelling and grammar check)2.Students will be able to revise a passage (story, composition, etc…) using theDictionary and Thesaurus tools in Microsoft Word.3.Students will be able to use spelling or vocabulary words to practice formattingtools – Bold, Font (size, color, style, type), alignment, bullets/numbering system.(You could use subject specific vocabulary words and definitions, listed factslearned about a topic, list of favorite things, math facts….)4.Using a word-processed passage from a science or social studies text book,students will be able to take notes by copying and pasting the main idea andsupporting details and the keywords. (could be anadvertising brochure for a product on the market, an invented product, a state, acountry, a place of recreation, etc…)10.Students will post to a topic in a teacher specific blog to generate ideas anddiscussion on a theme.11.Students will use classroom blog discussion to create an electronic graphicorganizer to use in composing a writing sample.12.Using a Kidspiration template for brainstorming and Word for publishing,students will create an autobiographical poem.13.Using Word, students will compose a friendly letter inviting their parents/familyto a special school event.14.Using Word, students will compose a business letter to a company about a productthey like or do not like.15.Using Publisher, students will create a class newsletter informing family, friends,school members, and the community about classroom academics and events.16.Using KidPix, students will create a digital storybook to share with an audience,using a self-selected story.17.Students will write a script sharing classroom events to create a podcast usingAudacity (program on PC computer) or GarageBand (program on Mac).18.Using Inspiration, students will create a flow map showing the sequence of eventsin history to use in composition writing.
