The

Guest

I went to my mailbox, and

there was only one letter. I picked it
up and looked at it before opening,
but then, I looked at the envelope
again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only my name and address. I
read the letter:

Dear Friend,
Im going to be in your neighborhood this week,
and I would like to stop by for a
visit.
Love Always, Jesus
My hands were shaking as I placed the letter on the table. Why would
the Lord want to visit me? Im nobody special. I dont have anything to offer.
With that thought, I remembered my empty kitchen cabinets. Oh my
goodness, I really dont have anything to offer Him. Ill have to run down to the
store and buy something for my important guest.
I reached for my purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and
forty cents. Well, I can get some bread and cold cuts - at least.
I threw on my coat and hurried out the door. A loaf of French bread, a
half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milkleaving me with a grand total
of twelve cents to last me until Monday. Nonetheless, I felt happy as I headed
home. My meager offerings tucked under my arm.
Hey lady, can you help us, lady?
I have been so absorbed in my dinner plans; I hadnt even noticed two
figures huddling in the alleyway. There were a man and a woman, both of them
dressed in a little more than rags.
Look lady, I dont have a job, you know. And my wife and I have been
living out here on the streets, and well, now its getting cold, and we havent
eaten for days. If you can help us, lady, wed really appreciate it.
They were dirty, they smelled bad, and frankly, I was certain that they
could get some kind of work if they really wanted to.
Sir, Id like to help you, but Im a poor woman myself. All I have is a
few cold cuts, some bread, and some milk, and Im having an important guest for
dinner tonight, and I was planning on serving that to Him.

Yeah, well, okay lady, we understand. Thanks anyway.

The man put his arm around the womans shoulders, turned, and headed back into
the alley. As I watched them leave, I felt a familiar twinge in my heart.
Sir, wait!
The couple stopped and turned as I ran down the alley after them.
Look, why dont you take this food. Ill figure out something else to
serve my guest. I handed the man my grocery bag.
Thank you, lady. Thank you very much!
Yes, thank you! said the mans wife, and I could see that she was shivering.
You know, Ive got another coat at home. Here, why dont you take this
one? I unbuttoned my jacket and slipped it over the womans shoulders. Then
smiling, I turned and walked back to the streetwithout my coat and with nothing to serve my important guest.
Thank you, lady. Thank you very much!
I was chilled to the bone by the time I reached my front door and was
also very worried. The Lord was coming to visit, and I didnt have anything to
offer Him. I fumbled through my purse for the door key. But as I did, I noticed
another envelope in my mailbox.
Thats odd. The mailman doesnt usually come twice in one day! I
took the envelope out of the box and opened it.

Dear Friend,
It was so good to see you again! Thank you for the lovely meal!
And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat.
Love Always, Jesus
The air is cold, but even without my coat, I no longer noticed.
What about you, dear friend?
Would you do the same thing?
Or would you just
walk past?
Jesus said:
Assuredly, I say to
you, inasmuch as you
did it to one of the
least of these My
brethren, you did it to
Me.

Matthew 25:40

Trust God
Life is full of many surprises,
There are not only peaks, but valleys too.
There are many sunsets and sunrises,
What you do with it-that's up to you!
When things don't go as you had planned,
When fear and dread grips at your heart,
And you feel like you are sinking in quicksand,
You dont know how to get out or where to start.
You try to find solutions here and there,
But it seems youve come to a dead end.
You think that no one really cares,
Who will lend you a helping hand?
God will help you in your time of need,
Just get on your knees and tell Him all.
Trust Him completely, and He will lead,
He will answer your prayers when you call.
Trust God when your days are bleak and gray,
When fear and terror have you in a strong hold,
Trust Him when there are no sunshine rays,
When everything is dark and cold.
Trust God when you dont know what else to do,
When you have to make a life-changing choice.
Trust Him when doubt attacks you,
And your tears keep your pillow wet and moist.
Thank God in all circumstances of lifeIn happy moments and in sad ones too.
When you feel like your heart is being carved by a knife,
Trust God and He will lead you through.
Thank God for everything He has done for you.
Praise Him for your family and friends,
For the blood of His Son that made you new,
Thank Him for His care and helping hands.
Remember, God is always near you.
You are His child; His very precious daughter.
His love for you will bring you through,
Even in the desert, He will be your water!

Lena Kuchmiy

If I have any special gifts or talents,

it is because God gave them to me.
If I worked hard to develop any skills or strengths,
it is through the circumstances that God afforded me.
What right then do I have to consider myself any better
than my neighbor?
What do I own that is truly mine?
What do I own that is not from God?
Humility is a very Christian ideal.
We hear a lot about love and respect and pride and equality,
which are good things, but humility is not praised nearly
enough.
Maybe because it's boring,
maybe because it doesn't lend itself to attention.
But remember that it is humility that allows us to admit we
are
sinners and that we need Jesus Christ.
The Beauty of Humility
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself
and became obedient to death
even death on a cross!

Thats what Christians do

In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court said it was okay to
kill unborn babies. Since then, we have killed more than
the entire population of Canada. And it continues. A
womans choice? Half of those who have died in their
mothers wombs have been women. They didnt have a

At one time it was a perversion. We kept it secret. We
offered help and hope for those who practiced it. Now, it is
praised. We have parades celebrating it, and elected officials
give it their blessings. Now, it is endowed with special privileges and protected by special laws. Even some Christian leaders and denominations praise it. It is called homosexuality.

choice. It is called abortion.

First, it was in dingy, dirty theaters. Then, convenience

stores. Then, grocery stores. Then, on television. Now it is in
the homes of millions via the Internet. It is called pornography.

It used to be an embarrassment. A shame. Now a third of

all births are to mothers who arent married. Two-thirds of all
African-American children are born into a home without a
father. The state usually pays the tab. That is why we pay our
taxes, so that the government can take the place of parents.
After all, government bureaucrats know how to raise children
much better than parents do. It is called illegitimacy.

They called it no-fault. Why should we blame anyone

when something so tragic happens? Havent they already suffered enough? Half of the marriages in America end this way.
The children suffer. The family breaks down. It is called divorce.

At one time it was wrong, but then the state decided to

legalize it, promote it, and tax it. It has ripped apart families
and destroyed lives. But just look at all the money the state has
raised. No longer do we have to teach our children to study
and work hard. Now we teach them they can get something for
nothing. We spend millions encouraging people to join the fun
and excitement. Just look at the big sums that people are win-

ning. They will never have to work again! It is called gambling.

Not long ago, Christians were the good guys. We are now
depicted as the bad guys greedy, narrow-minded hypocrites.
The teacher cant have a Bible on her desk but can
have Playboy. We dont have Christmas and Easter holidays
just winter and spring break. We cant pray in school but can
use foul language. Its called being tolerant.

Yes, all these things came to pass within 30 years. Where
were the Christians? Why, they were in church. All these
things are for someone else to deal with. Times have changed.
Involvement has been replaced with
apathy.
But dont blame me. I didnt do
anything. I go to church, the minister
preaches, I go home. Thats what Christians do now.
