Ladies Auxiliary Br.43 Newsletter, October 2012
Fall has arrived. The beautiful hot summer has ended. Its time again to send you an update of happenings and events in your Auxiliary. Track And FieldLegion Track and Field meet was held at Oshawa Civic Fields on Saturday July7, and July 23,2012. The Auxiliary prepared and delivered 280 bagged lunches for the Athletes andVolunteers. Your Auxiliary received $780.00 from Provincial Command for providing thelunches.Meetings The first fall meeting was held September 25, 2012, with only13 members attending.Our Secretary, Helen Baumgartner sent a resignation letter, resigning from the position of Secretary, due to illness. We sincerely thank Helen for her many years of dedicated service.We appreciate and thank Terry Peasgood, for accepting the position of Secretary. Terri wasofficially installed as our new secretary on Tuesday night at the membership meeting.Ladies Auxiliary membership meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. in the dart room at the Legion.Exceptions: Monday October 22, Meeting and Honours and Awards - 4:00 pm.November 27, 2012 -6:30 pmException: December 12, 2012, short meeting prior to our Christmas dinner at 4:00 pm. Joint Executive meeting.October 11, 2012 is a joint executive meeting with the branch at 7:00 pm.  The Semi Annual Ladies Auxiliary Provincial Convention was held in Zone F1 from Fri. Sept. 14to Wed. Sept. 19
2012, at the Whitby Curling Club with over 600 delegates present. OurAuxiliary prepared 290 Egg Salad sandwiches, to be sold at the concession stand. 30 dozeneggs were donated by Sunnyside Farm Ashburn Ontario. The receipts from the food concessionwill be divided among all Auxiliaries in zone F1. Thanks to Treasurer, Barb Wilson, 1st Vice Pres. Candy Shelley, for attending as our Delegates,and Donna Howe, Executive Member, as our Alternate delegate and a convention volunteer.Sincere Thanks to Donna Howe for honouring our Auxiliary by carrying our Auxiliary flag in theConvention Parade.On Sunday Sept. 16
,our Auxiliary hosted a Beef BBQ to 180 delegates from across Canada.Everyone enjoyed the entertainment by Syd Simkins. The Auxiliary sincerely thank our Branch Comrades who generously gave their time to help us.Sincere thanks to Our Branch President, Doug Finney, who came to help serve, and deliveredour egg salad sandwiches on Monday and Tuesday to the Whitby Curling Club. Thanks to Ann Webster for helping prepare the sandwiches. Thanks to Ellen McClean for herdecorating expertise. We received many compliments on your setup. Thanks to Al Gagnon for volunteering his time to drive the bus, as well as carve the roasts forthe BBQ, serve and sell 50/50 tickets. Thanks to Sandra Strutt for helping carve the roasts and serve, and clean up. Thanks to JocelynHodgson for serving and clean up. Thanks to Rus Rack who volunteered to Serve, Wash dishes, and sell 50/50 tickets. Thanks To Dave Morrisey the 2
Bus driver who helped carry food to the buffet table and helpserve our guests. Tues. Sept. 18, our Auxiliary hosted the incoming Provincial Ladies Auxiliary President’sreception for 100 invited guests.Big Thanks to Doug Finney, for arranging with Mal Knocker, and pipe band to perform a miniconcert for our out of town guests at the Provincial Presidents reception. Our guests were trulyimpressed and enjoyed the fabulous pipes. Many Thanks to Mal Knocker and the members of the Pipe Band.Seniors VisitWednesday Sept. 19, the auxiliary, along with the Branch, hosted our Oshawa Seniors fromNursing homes and our own seniors, to an afternoon of music by Adam Tamoon and a lightlunch. 44 seniors attended. Thank you to Marg Convery for chairing this event.It was an exceptional busy week for us and we grately appreciate all your help.Sunday DinnersSunday September 23, 2012, Winnie Reid and her committee prepared and cooked a deliciousUkranian Dinner. Menu included Roll, Garden Salad, Shishkabobs, cabbage rolls, and perogys,for $10.00. The dinner was served following the Br.43 membership meeting. Proceeds from thedinner were $640.00. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the dinner. The Ladies Auxiliary will be holding Sunday dinner on the fourth Sunday of each month.Serving will follow the Br.43 Membership Meeting.October 28, 2012 is the next Sunday Dinner: (serving Approximately 2:00pm) CelebratingOktoberfest.Menu: Schnitzel, Oktoberfest sausage, Hot potato salad, red cabbage and apples, plusexcellent entertainment.
November 25, 2012 – Menu - Jiggs Dinner, also known as Newfy Scoff, includes salt beef,onions, celery, turnip, carrots, cabbage etc. There will be great entertainment for theafternoon.December to be announced.Bring your family and friends to Sunday dinner and an afternoon of entertainment. Take abreak, Let us do the cooking.Bursary presentationsMarie Graham will be presenting our bursary award at Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic School,on October 4, at 7:00 pm 2012. Thanks Marie for representing our Ladies Auxiliary.Poppy Campaign 2012Poppy Chairman is Jan Hulcio. Poppy tagging starts Friday October 26, 2012. Sign up sheetswill be in the Legion Foyer. Contact Jan Hulcio at 905.579.0863 for further information.Wreath preparation for the cenotaph will start November 1, 2012, in the dart room at theBranch. All volunteers are welcome.Christmas Party’sChildren’s Christmas Party, Sunday December 9, 2012. Elaine Convery is the chairperson forthis event. To register your Grandchild, or Great Grandchild call Elaine at 905.720.0287. Partywill be lots of fun. Music and crafts. Balloon animals, planned for the children. Pizza and friesfor lunch will be served by ladies auxiliary.Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Party, is Wednesday December 12, 2012, 4:00 pm. in Alfies LoungeLegion Lunch The Ladies Auxiliary is open for lunch in the branch weekly: Thursday and Friday 12:00 – 1:30 pmFriday nite pub from 5:00 pm.– 8:00 pm.
