1. LETTER TO N. H. PURANDARE
 January 13, 1933
MY DEAR PURANDARE,
I have your letter. I am sorry to have had it. I don’t like thespirit underlying it. You have looked upon the whole thing as acommercial transaction, whereas I have looked upon the whole thingas a matter of selfless service. You left the question of remunerationentirely in my hands, although I asked you to tell me what you wouldcharge for giving me a corrected collection of your speeches onuntouchability and for supervising the printing. But you would notthink of it, telling me that there was no mercenary motive behind it.That being so, I had no hesitation in undertaking the delicate task, butat the end of it, I shirked it, and I asked Haribhau to name the sum. Henamed Rs. 125 and I straightaway accepted. Believe me, so far as I amconcerned, I did not think of the Arya Bhushan bill in connectionwith fixing up your fee, remuneration or honorarium, whatever it maybe called. Nor did I then know nor do I now know that the AryaBhushan bill is exorbitant. My understanding is that they should notmake anything but nominal profits. You are thinking of anythingbetween Rs. 500 to 3,000. I can only meet your proposal with areasonable offer. You can take over the book yourself by simplypaying the printing charges and sell the book on your own accountand make whatever profit you can, only you should not increase thepublished price, for any increase in the price would be unjust to thepublic.I have already asked Haribhau to pay you Rs. 125 if you wouldaccept the amount in full payment and not feel any dissatisfaction. For I would be deeply hurt if, after having left the thing in my hands, you were dissatisfied with the amount declared by me.
Yours sincerely,
S

2. LETTER TO DHANNU LALL SHARMA
 January 13, 1933
DEAR FRIEND,
I will not refer you to any of my statements this time, but I willask you to re-read your own letter
1
. I suggest to you that that letter islibellous, insulting and unworthy of one who holds the position of General Secretary of a Sanatan Dharma Sabha. If you will re-read your letter calmly and dispassionately, youwill at once apologize to the pandits whom you have libelled, and, inany event, till you apologize, your letters will neither be read norreplied to. I am sorry for it.

3. LETTER TO SATYANANDA BOSE
 January 13, 1933
DEAR SATYANANDA BABOO,
You are always so good and always think of me whenever thereis anything to say to me.I think that this is hardly the time to consider improvements inDr. Subbaroyan’s Bill. The first thing is to get the Viceregal sanction. When that is had, many improvements may be possible. I am nottherefore just now applying my mind to your suggestion

So far as I amconcerned, my one thought in connection with the temple-entry is thepurification of caste Hindus. 4.. LETTER TO S. T. RAMANUJA IYENGAR
 January 13, 1933
DEAR FRIEND,
I have your letter together with your article
1
. I am sorry indeedthat there should have been any molestation of you by the audience. Ihave, as you must be aware, repeatedly written against intolerance, andI shall gladly re-emphasize my warning when the time comes. As for your article, we must agree to differ.

Our conception of sanatana dharma is different. In your impatience you have not evencared to understand my fundamental position. I can only say, ‘Readall my statements with a fresh mind, then if you have still doubts, discuss them with Sjt. Rajagopalachariar and if you are not stillconvinced and would care to do so, come down to Yeravda and I shallgladly give you one hour and try to convince you that the position Itake up and the means I adopt to vindicate are both perfectlydefensible.’
Yours sincerely,
