ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
MACC CommonWealth is a nationally recognized leader providing outstanding management services to non-profit organizations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The organizations team of forty professionals and network of service providers brings a remarkable level of combined expertise and client service in the areas of finance, human resources, information technology, medical billing, facilities management, and client data systems. The original idea for MACC CommonWealth came over ten years ago when a small group of non-profit organizations came together with an innovative idea of sharing resources in order to be more cost-effective, efficient and focused on their work in the community. Starting with four member organizations, today nearly thirty member organizations rely on the staff, systems and technology of the MACC CommonWealth to manage their administrative needs while they focus on serving their clients and advancing their missions. This collaborative approach between members and MACC CommonWealth as a multiple service provider creates shared solutions that far exceed the capacity of any of the individual members. Strong financial performance and new member acquisition have been strengths of the organization and have led to continued growth at MACC CommonWealth over the years. MACC CommonWealth is located downtown Minneapolis. The organization is now in its sixth year providing services to a growing list of member non-profits including:

The organization is an initiative of the MACC Alliance of Connected Communities, a partnership of twenty community-based human service organizations that advocate for, connect and serve individuals, families and communities in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION


This position is available due to the upcoming retirement of the founding CEO, Stan Birnbaum. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible to the board of directors for the overall management of the organization. The CEO will provide effective executive leadership for the MACC CommonWealth within the mission and scope of the organizations programs, policies, procedures, and budget. The MACC CommonWealth has a fiscal year 2011-2012 budget of $4 million and employs 40 staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Provide executive leadership for the Chair, the Board of Directors, key Board Committees, and staff to enable timely and responsible decision making. Be responsible, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, for leading strategic planning for the organization. Track and monitor implementation of the strategic plan. Lead the management team and, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, develop current operating plans and budgets. Further a reintegration with MACC Alliance, representing a new level of collaboration with the founding organization. Maintain and enhance current member relationships and continue to build the organizations focus on excellent member service. Build new relationships with potential member organizations. Acquire new members to join MACC CommonWealth. Manage the capacity and continued growth of the organization. At this time, there is more demand for MACC CommonWealths services than the organization can support. Ensure the adequacy and soundness of the organizations financial structure and position. Bring a future focus to the planning of the organization.

Use appropriate problem solving models and a systems perspective to deal with complex issues and the need to connect and integrate systems. Maintain an organizational climate that attracts, motivates and retains high quality staff. Lead staff with a style focused on service, authenticity, transparency, individual development and commitment to team and community. Speak publicly, and serve as a community leader, representing the mission, vision and value proposition of the organization. Establish measures of success and evaluation processes for the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for this key executive position should be experienced, strategic and collaborative community leaders. The successful candidate will be a person with a reputation for excellence and integrity. He or she will have proven leadership experience, ideally in a related organization, exemplary interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to the mission, vision and values of MACC CommonWealth. He or she should possess strong skills in an area(s) such as financial management, technology, human resources, billing and administration. The new CEO will be committed to providing outstanding member services and will have experience in customer service and client relations. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required and a Masters degree is preferred. Other essential skills and experience include: A demonstrated commitment to positive employee relations and an organizational culture of growth, development and collaboration. A commitment to excellence in member services. A minimum of seven to ten years of senior management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, or a demonstrated understanding of non-profit management issues through non-profit consulting, board service, etc. Candidates may have a combination of experience in the for-profit and the nonprofit sectors. Functional expertise in one or more of the following areas: finance/accounting, IT/technology management, human resources/benefits administration, customer service/client relations, billing, reporting, administrative services. Experience with member organizations or organizations focused on client services. Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the landscape of non-profit organizations serving the Twin Cities area strongly preferred.

Experience in providing leadership for and developing a Board of Directors. Excellent public speaking, relationship management, and staff management skills. Demonstrated ability to cultivate an inclusive workplace that fosters staff development and facilitates cross-functional cooperation and teamwork. A systems thinking perspective and the ability to thoughtfully solve and facilitate solutions for complex issues.

To be successful inside of the MACC CommonWealth culture, the candidate must be: A warm leader who exudes care for others, engenders trust and goodwill, and builds enduring relationships, is a model of authenticity, credibility and ethical conduct. A visionary and entrepreneurial spirit, willing to propose, strategize and execute new ways of delivering service and solving challenging problems. A good listener with a respectful, consultative, and accessible leadership style, selfassured and comfortable with situations of ambiguity, able to relate easily to a wide range of constituencies including staff, members, and a wide variety of community groups. Highly competent, a team player, finds enjoyment in the work place, is an honest, open and balanced individual. The candidate should possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and be skilled at communication and collaboration. Flexible and readily available to the Board of Directors, the senior management staff, and a variety of stakeholders. Strong in client relations and public communications.

COMPENSATION
The compensation package for this position is competitive and attractive. It includes an executive pay structure and participation in the organizations comprehensive benefits plan.
