Spain in the basement of Spains Roanoke County, Va. home. The companys 130,000 sq. ft. headquarters was built near Salem, Va. in the mid 1970s. The companys primary patent, a unique locking principal suing angled key cuts and the elevation and rotation of special pin tumblers to provide millions of different key combinations, produced a cylinder that was highly resistant to virtually all forms of attack and created an unrivaled level of security. The company offered a $50,000 reward to anyone who could pick the new lock. Many tried and failed, with the sole exception being a NYC detective who picked the lock once, but failed on his second attempt. Subsequent design patents for Biaxial Locking Systems, KeyMark , and electronic lock technology (SiteLine, Logic, Nexgen XT), have established the company as one of the world's leading producers of high security locks, controlled duplication of keys, and the retrofit cylinder marketplace. ASSA ABLOY is the worlds leading manufacturing and supplier of locks and security products. Manufacturing Headquarters: The Salem facility specializes in producing electronic cylinders (eCylinders). eCylinders guard against theft and help control loss and liability by governing who has access to restricted areas at any given time. Users can pull audit information after a breach occurs to identify the person(s) responsible and prevent future losses early.
