On Nov. 6, voters in the 7th Congressional District will choose their next congressman.

The boundaries of Wisconsins largest congressional district have changed as a result of redistricting, but thats not all. Were also seeing demographic shifts and economic changes within the district. Heres a look at how were changing:
Population: 689,279 (582,884 in 2000) Population centers: Marathon County: 134,063; St. Croix County: 84,345; Barron County: 45,870; Polk County: 44,205; Oneida County: 35,998; Lincoln County: 28,743 Leading industry: Education, health care and social assistance, employing 21.7 percent of the districts 342,855 civilian employed population. Next: Manufacturing, with 20.2 percent. Retail accounts for 11.7 percent. Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and mining accounts for 4.1 percent. Gender: The district has gotten more male in the last decade, from 49.7% male/50.3% female in 2000 to 50.5% male/49.5% female in 2011. Diversty: White: 95.4%; Asian: 2%; American Indian: 2.3%; Hispanic: (any race): 1.7%; African American: 0.9%. (Note: Some residents counted as more than one race.) Income: Real income in the district has declined in the last 10 years. Median income in 2000 was $39,144, equivalent to about $50,000 in 2011. But the median income in 2011 in the district was only $45,297. The poverty rate has increased from 8.6 percent in 2000 to 12.7 percent in 2011. Industry: Manufacturing has declined only a little bit, falling from 21.8 percent of the workforce in 2000 to 18.7 percent in 2011.

Aging: The district is getting older. The median age in 2000 was 37.8; in 2011 it was 42.7. All age groups younger than 44 have declined since 2000; all age groups older than 45 have increased. Douglas Bayeld
