CHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTION1.1 Introduction
In this chapter the following will be briefly covered as a foundation to the project; background totrade project, statement of the problem, trade project objectives and the scope of trade project.
1.2Background to the study
The idea of a five band graphic equalizer came up during my period of attachment at the KenyaPor4ts Authority. In the routine maintenance and repair at the radio marine department, I wasable to observe that the radio receivers used around the port and those in ships and other watervessels that I managed to visit had audio output speakers, the speakers had varying output levelsregarding the size of the receiver and frequency in use. Most of the receivers have 2 to 3 bandgraphic equalizer which gave a limited scope to high quality audio signals received duringcommunication by radio receivers; hence I saw the need to have a five band graphic equalizerwhich will boost the level of quality audio signals. In the ships and big containers vessels theywere also fitted with stereo systems which had 2 and 3 bands, this also cited my idea to come upwith a 5 band equalizer to increase quality level of audio signals from stereo receivers, videoplayers thus cater for preference of an individual giving entertainment a worth quality.
1.3 Statement of the problem.
Graphic equalizer in any good Hi-fi system enable one to shape the response of the system to aparticular room or environment ,where it improves deficiencies of the equipment of the qualityof the sound to your listening pleasure . Since most home audio systems i.e. fm receivers havetwo or three inbuilt graphic equalizers which may not sufficiently meet the preference soundquality of each individual also in other places especially in recording studios, entertainment hallsor in vehicles and other transport vessels.5 band graphic equalizer has five bands which cover all audible frequencies centered at 100 Hz320Hz , 1 KH2 , 1KHz, 3.5KHz and 10KHz hence the sound effect can be adjusted by use of potentiometers to accommodate any home or place to give a quality and high level sound output .Also five band graphic equalizer eliminates shaking sound and noise and can balance differentfrequencies to match both high and low frequencies it also compensate for acoustics . This helpin realizing quality sounds in audio gadgets.
