During the month of October, our focus wason the “SPEAK WITHGOOD PURPOSE” key,which means to use kindwords and have goodintentions whencommunicating with orabout others andourselves. Our Studentof the Month winner, bya class vote, is Shelby,who has been workinghard to be positive andspeak with goodpurpose. During themonth of November, wewill be spending timetalking about the“INTEGRITY” key.Students learn that it’simportant to do the rightthing. When you knowwhat is right and youractions match, you areshowing integrity.
Homework:
It is important toread your homeworkstory for a few minuteseach night. RepetitiveDAILY practice will helpyour brain recognize andrecall common wordsand solve the trickierwords faster.

 What We AreLearning:
Global Read Aloud :We really enjoyedparticipating in thisproject again this year. We havebeen connecting with students inthe United States in differentEdmodo book groups. Throughthis site we have shared ourthoughts on the story, favouritecharacters, and predictions forwhat would happen next. At thehalfway point of the story,students wrote a blog postretelling the first half of thestory. We also added short stop-motion animation videos to ourposts. We created plasticinecharacters and used the iAnimateapp on the iPad to create thevideos. We created a secondglobal read aloud blog post thathas a talking voki avatar studentscreated to share the point of viewof Bob, a character in the story.You can read our posts and leaveus comments by visiting:http://kidblog.org/gill-villeans We are now wrapping up theproject and learning about thereal Ivan, a real gorilla that thestory was based on. We willcontinue with some research onspecies at risk such as thewestern lowland gorilla.
