To study the factor which affects the number of pendulums swing in a given time period through a scientic investigation

According to the apparatus set-up and information below, carry out an activity to study the effect of length of pendulum on the number of swings made in 20 seconds. Then, write a report for the activity. Problem statement : How does the length of a simple length of pendulum pendulum affect the number of swings? Aim : To determine the effect of length of R P pendulum bob Q pendulum on the number of swings Diagram 1.1 Diagram 1.2 made in 20 s. Hypothesis : The shorter the length of the pendulum, the higher the number of swings. Variables : Manipulated variable Responding variable Constant variable Materials Apparatus Procedure : Pendulum bob, string : Retort stand and clamp, metre ruler, stopwatch : 1 Set up a simple pendulum 20 cm long. 2 Pull the pendulum bob to one side, then release. 3 Start the stopwatch immediately. 4 Record the number of swings made by the pendulum in 20 s in Table 1. 5 Repeat the experiment using a simple pendulum of different lengths as shown in Table 1. 6 Draw a line graph on the graph paper. :1

Analysis and discussion: (a) Based on Table 1, state the relationship between the length of pendulum and the number of swings. The complete swings in 20 s. pendulum makes

(b) (i) On the graph paper below, draw a line graph using the data in Table 1.
number of swings 35 30 25 20 15 10 5 0 10 20 30 40 50 length of pendulum (cm)

(ii) Based on the graph drawn in 1(b)(i), predict the number of swings if the length of pendulum is 15 cm. The number of swings predicted = (c) (i) Predict the number of swings if the length of pendulum is 20 cm and the mass of bob is doubled. The number of swings = (ii) Give one inference for the answer in 1(c)(i).

Conclusion: 1 The hypothesis is .

2 The number of swings made by the pendulum depends on the of the pendulum.
