Dear Brother or Sister!
Salaam Alaikum! Now that you are ready to begin learning the beautiful letters of the Arabic alphabet—tohelp you in being able to read and understand the words of Allah in the Noble Qur’an, wewill start with the activities in this booklet. Our lessons will begin with learning the Arabic alphabet and the different changes whicheach letter goes through! Just like in hand-written English, when a letter appears at thebeginning, middle or end of a word, it has its own special shape, so too is the same withArabic! In the Arabic alphabet, there are twenty-eight (28) letters and each one is special in itsown way—whether it is its shape or the number of dots (Nuqta) above or below the letter. Some letters have a different shape for all four ways it is written: on its own; at thebeginning of a word; at the middle of a word and at the end of a word! In this booklet, wewill see how each letter changes at each stage of how it is written!Be sure to pay careful attention to these lessons and make sure that you spend the time at home practicing how to write each letter as this will also help you learn and memorize theletters! In addition, ask you mom or dad or brother or sister to sit down with you every day for a fewminutes to help you learn these letters so that when you come back to Madressah, you willbe able to show the teacher how much you have learnt and will be ready to begin reading the Qur’an very quickly and with great ease! May Allah bless you in helping you to learnthe Arabic alphabet in the shortest time possible!Al-Husayni MadressahKitchener, Ontario, Canada
