SHAPESHIFTER
While clean lines and crisp perspective will always inspire us, the strong architectural influence of Spring 12 and our exploration of paradox in Fall 12 naturally motivated us to explore the creative space in between. Precise structure and contradiction evolve to be softer, a little blurred around the edges, more relaxed and accommodating. Only half tongue-in-cheek, weve named our inspiration for Spring 13 Shapeshifter. In the most literal sense, shifting shapes include rounded, sometimes dropped or scalloped hemlines, dropped shoulders, longer, more fluid lengths, easy volume, curved seams, rounded pockets and less sharp V-necks. Water, the ultimate shapeshifter, provided inspiration for our print and pattern design. Water takes many forms, and its adaptability and fluidity provide a wonderful metaphor for a full life, well lived. But only one aspect of Shapeshifter refers to form. Its more important quality implies versatility and the ability to move effortlessly through different environments. Weve created styles that morph to suit a life lived both outdoors and in, that work and play, that handle the city with confidence but love the beach, the mountains and most of all, to travel. I admit to being profoundly under the influence of an Italian vacation when we embarked on designing this season. I loved being surrounded by magnificent and simple beauty at every turn and the pleasure of imprecision the easy rhythm of unstructured days and an itinerary that meandered between specific points. Meals were discovered, not scheduled, and a memorable rustic tart at lunch was as exquisite and imperfect as the hand-drawn map from the hotel owner. When your clothes fit into a single bag and favor function and an imperfect, comfortable beauty, they complete the experience. There is no resistance to this pure and simple pleasure. Bravissima.

FABRICS

JIVE KNIT - 53% ORGANIC COTTON / 45% TENCEl / 2% SPANdEx Tencel is the darling of the eco-fabric world thanks to its renewable, cleanly processed fiber, silky hand and comfortinducing properties. Blended with fine organic cotton and a touch of spandex, it elevates a simple jersey knit to something special with just enough body to love yours. lIGHTwEIGHT CHAmBRAy - 100% ORGANIC COTTON The next best thing to naked, Lightweight Chambray takes the beloved look of chambray and enlightens it with a feather-weight organic cotton. Its exclamatory softness needs to be worn to be believed. lINEN/COTTON yARN 55% lINEN / 45% COTTON There is a practical elegance to linen. Wearing it feels dressy and special, but it has definite workhorse qualities such as durability, versatility and resiliency. Blend it with cotton and you get a beautiful, lofty yarn thats kitten soft, light as air and gets better each time its worn.

AIRBRUSH 100% ORGANIC COTTON Like air held together by a few (beautiful) yarns, Airbrush is the ber-ventilator preferred by hot-weather enthusiasts everywhere. Its gauzy and ethereal and exactly what you want when the mercury and humidity rise to the high double digits but your yen to look and feel cool holds steadfast. AllOy KNIT - 65% ORGANIC COTTON / 35% POlyESTER This lightweight jersey is delightfully low maintenance while maintaining strong and steadfast character. Its super-soft feel is best described as heavenly while its rich, heathered colors keep it down to earth. AllOy - 60% ORGANIC COTTON / 40% RECyClEd POlyESTER Alloy delivers straight-out-of-the-hamper good looks in a lightweight weave and variety of unique yarn-dye patterns. With organic cotton and recycled poly to make sure it stays cool under pressure and wont wilt in the heat or wrinkle in the wash. BANdwIdTH 70% ORGANIC COTTON / 30% POlyESTER Our Bandwidth fleece is on the same wavelength as relaxation. Soft and eco-friendly, this subtle yarn-dyed French terry is fine tuned not too light and not too heavy to handle seasonal transitions and everyday utility. Perfectly comfy against your skin, the poly speeds dry time, adds durability and keeps it lightweight. BUTTERKNIT - 100% ORGANIC COTTON Butter makes everything better. Proof in point is this ultra-creamy jersey knit featuring fine, long-staple yarns for a decadently soft hand that melts away stress and organic cotton to satisfy your eco hunger. CONTRAIl - 100% ORGANIC COTTON Loosely knit and distinctively structured, Contrail is organic cotton jersey gone wild. Slubbed yarns create a relaxed, highly textured knit that floats above your skin giving you wicked comfort and freedom.

dOBBy CHAmBRAy 100% COTTON Chambray has our hearts because of its hard-working, blue-collar roots, but its appeal is in its pure ease and honest style. We gave our 100% cotton chambray a structure boost with the addition of a subtle dobby texture that holds up to shorts and jackets. Even if you know chambray, youve never seen it quite like this before. FlExCEl lIGHT 56% TENCEl / 23% COTTON / 18% POlyESTER / 3% SPANdEx This ideal year-round knit is a blend of Tencel (a silky, eco-friendly cellulosic fiber that is resilient and absorbent), cotton, quick-dry polyester and dynamic spandex. The result? You get beautiful, flexible and active all in one. FORSHAdOw 68% TENCEl SUN / 32% ANTI UV POlyESTER It doesnt hurt to have some extra sun protection when you travel. The UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) inherent to Forshadow is a function of the Tencel Sun yarns (an eco-friendly, tree-based fiber with mineral pigments) and anti UV polyester. The result is a very smooth, slightly slinky, tropics-loving blend that offers moisture management, comfort and a minimum UPF of 35. FRETwORK OxFORd lIGHT 100% ORGANIC COTTON Certain haberdasheries have survived for decades on the classic oxford cloth shirt. For good reason: Oxford cloth is casual, elegant and, above all, comfortable. Consider ours to be the mussed-up, bed-head, organic cotton version of this timeless staple, perfectly weighted for the warmer months. ImBEddEd CHECK - 49% ORGANIC COTTON / 50% COTTON / 1% SPANdEx Are you starting to see a pattern here? Well, look closer. Theres a subtle tonal check in this fine twill fabric that gives it a distinctly unsolid solid look. Lets you stand apart from the crowd, but not so far that you miss your ride home. Organic cotton with a hint of stretch yarn-dyed, overdyed and washed for that comfortable weathered look and feel.

lINEN CHAmBRAy - 100% lINEN Oh how we love a good chambray. It looks eternally good and gets more wonderful with each wear. And its never better than in pure linen, with a rumple like late-summer clouds and cool-breeze loft. mAdRAS - 100% ORGANIC COTTON Madras is subcontinent for summer. Its practically a uniform once you land in areas that know their heat. In fine organic cotton, its sole purpose is to keep you looking and feeling cool no matter how high the mercury climbs. mOdAl STRETCH HEATHER 72% mOdAl / 20% POlyESTER / 8% SPANdEx Modal Stretch Heather is a deliciously soft foray into the melding of three distinct fibers. Modal contributes supple softness, polyester durability and spandex resilience. This subtly heathered knit is quietly elegant and pj cozy and begs to be pulled close. David Duron
David loves tank tops, hanging out with his family and talking to his awesome dealers. He doesnt love red bell peppers and chocolate. He travels a lot, but when hes home in Santa Barbara he spends his time surfing and cooking and working around the house. This year he grew an accidental garden made entirely of volunteer tomatoes and potatoes. Hes been with the Toad Family of Brands for more than three years and says he will stay forever unless he lands a gig as an international tank top model or rock star.

Kimberly Burnell
Kimberly loves to run and run and run, especially with good friends. Among her other favorites: bananas with peanut butter, cats, backseat driving and talking to Toad dealers. The eldest of three girls, she was born and raised in Colorado, spent time on the East Coast, and then discovered magical Santa Barbara. She never wants to leave. In her former life, she was a newspaper editor, and she channels those journalism skills when writing Toad HQ update e-mails to dealers. Shes been a Toad for four years, but dont ask her to pick a favorite style because she loves and wears everything. Her cat, Charlie, however, only naps on Cashmoore.

Steve Harding and Bob the Dog

Part dog, part amazing, Bob is also well known for his participation in the annual Santa Barbara doggie mile race. Steve, on the other hand, is notorious for pedaling around town on his beach cruiser wearing a Green Bay Packers football helmet. Bob is lobbying hard to have pet bunnies and chickens around the office, and Steves career aspirations are to finally beat David Duron in one single stinking game of ping-pong.
