Matt Walker, Director of Operations: We are in receipt of your Memorandum of September 26, 2012 and we are informed that

its recommendations have been passed by the Delegate Body. Although we would have hoped to have been included in the deliberative process leading up to its formulation and approval, we seek to reach agreement that will enable us to continue to work with the Trial Committee Program, as close as possible to its current functioning. In that regard we are willing to discuss with the District Council our taking significant cuts in our remuneration in recognition of the Council's financial straits so as to continue a Program directed at Carpenter Justice in which we have pride, provided we do not forfeit our responsibility or accountability for the fairness, efficiency and overall conduct of the Program. In short, the recommendations in the Memorandum are unacceptable to us because we cannot permit ourselves to become occasional, casual observers of a process in which we have considered ourselves to be accountable not only to the membership, the Charging and Charged Parties, and the District Council but also to the Review Officer, the Government and Judge Berman. Accordingly, we ask for the opportunity to interact with you and others, including addressing whatever Delegates or Executive Board Members. The purpose is to indicate our willingness to substantially discount our costs, articulate our position on procedures, explain our dissatisfaction with the Memorandum's recommendations and to reaffirm, as well, our commitment to deliver quality and legally sound judgment and oversight to the Trial Committee process. In that way, perhaps we can maintain a Program that all of us could explain and defend with confidence in the future to whomever may inquire concerning the District Council's system of Carpenter Justice. I hope you will give us this opportunity to attempt to find some agreed-upon resolution which would permit us to continue a Program which should be defended before it is discarded. Thank you for your consideration. We are hopeful that a constructive dialogue may be started promptly. Walter Mack and Jim Zazzali
