Notes after Interim Crit Day and Project Extension
By Andriana Laskari and Dayle Sanders
Our Interim Crit was successful after the positive feedback we received for our creative work so far. Everythingin our project seems to work
from the tutors’ comments
, like the environment current designs in harmonywith the dynamic line work of the characters and the vivid colours with the texture tests. All this is a big plus.So this is what we should consider changing so far according to the advice we were given:-

Shorten our ident.-

Extend the 2
nd
Act in our animatic and shorten the 1
st
.-

Not hesitate to spend more time on the characters to get the best possible outcome-

Consider how to ‘tackle’ the upcoming animation (methods of animating, performance, walkcycles,
acting out the moves, etc)Eventually, we decided that the best decision to make the best out of our project is to extend it till the rest half of the year. This will allow us to spend more time on our characters and have more time to work on theanimation part which is complicated on its own as it is. In that we way we will both be assessed on what wewant: character design and character performance; both based on the same project. No one has been able tobe assessed on animation itself so far due to the character design pipeline which takes over half of a projectand results in not leaving enough space for animating. This is a big chance to grab this opportunity and makethis animated short the best and fully completed work of our 3
rd
year.To make this happen we need to divide our pipeline in to two parts, each representing the Minor and Majorproject assessments:
1
st
Assessment: Character Design (Minor Project):
-Fully resolved characters: All modelled, textured, rigged with facial rigs.- Fully rendered turnarounds of the characters with possible short animation to make the turnarounds moreinteresting.- Final Character Bible.- More work related to the project: Final Animatic and Pre-Viz, Resolved Environment, Render and LightingTests.
2
nd
Assessment: Character Performance(Major Project):-
Walkcycles and Animation techniques tests.-Acting out the characters-Final Animation.-More work related to the project: Compositing, Music, Sound, Post Production and The Art Of Book.
