MISSION FRIENDS
Wednesdays – 6:30pm for 2-5 yr oldsJoin us in November as we go up and down the hillsof San Francisco! There are many Afghan peoplewho live there and we are learning how missionariestell them about Jesus. We will go fishing, enjoy a teaparty and play with afghan scarves! Don’t miss thefun!!I am glad that I belong to a spirit-filled churchlike this one. The past several weeks reminded mehow God is working through you. The cards youreturned during “1,001 Blessings” showthoughtfulness, compassion, and generosity. Ilaughed at the silly costumes you put on for Trunk or Treat, just so neighborhood children would havea fun and safe event. Dozens of you prayed duringour 24 hour prayer vigil before the election.Hundreds of encouraging phone calls were madeby precious “care callers” to every family in ourchurch. Each week teachers, workers, singers, greeters and helpers unselfishly serve. Thank youfor being the Spirit controlled servants God hascalled you to be.Paul Powell wrote about a man who opened abar in a small community. The church peopledidn’t like it so they prayed for God to close itdown. Within weeks lightning hit the building andburned it to the ground. The people weresurprised, but pleased. Then they discovered theowner was suing them. He claimed their prayerswere responsible for his loss. Of course theydenied the charge. The judge summarized it allsuccinctly, “It seems the bar owner believes in thepower of prayer and the church people do not!”Prayer is more powerful than you realize. Itchanges churches and people. However, quick half-hearted prayers do not. Passionate persistentprayers will soften the hardest hearts. While I’m in Guatemala next week, Dr. CalvinKelley will preach in my absence. He is not only afriend but a faithful minister of the gospel. I knowyou will give him your prayerful support.Never underestimate the influence of parentswith children. Faith in Christ is more caught thantaught. When parents are involved in church, really involved, the children are more apt to lifegodly lives. When parents are not involved, thechildren are almost always weak spiritually. Forthe grandchildren the consequences are far worse, many never see the inside of a church, much lessknow of our savior. Like many traits, spiritualityoften runs in the family.
