Volleyball Rules:I.
 
General Information1.
 
The Players-
 
The game shall be played between 2 teams of 4 players each. (Six players maximumon the roster). Four players are required to start the game.-
 
Each team member is responsible for checking in at the registration desk.-
 
Co-Ed Only: A team must have at least 2 females on the court.2.
 
Rosters-
 
Maximum of 6 players on the roster-
 
Individuals must be listed on a team’s roster before they can participate
 -
 
Assign one person as team captain on each team
o
 
This person is the only player who can communicate with the refereesII.
 
Timing and Scoring Regulations-
 
A game is over when one team scores 15points. The match is over if:
o
 
One team wins two out of three games
o
 
The third game, if needed, is played to 12 points.-
 
Time between games is a maximum of one minute-
 
Scoring. Rally scoring is in effect for all games.III.
 
Serving Regulations1.
 
A coin toss will be issued and the team captains will decide the fate of the toss. Thewinner of the toss has the option of choosing to serve or to receive.2.
 
At the beginning of the second game, the roles are reversed and the team will switchcourts. Teams will not switch courts if a third game is played.3.
 
The server shall serve behind the boundary line and not touch the boundary lines or thefloor ou
tside it at the instant the ball is contacted on the serve. A part of the server’s
body may be in the air, over, or beyond these lines.4.
 
Each team must establish a rotation order before the start of each game.5.
 
Legal Serve:a.
 
The server may:i.
 
Hit the ball directly off the holding handii.
 
Hit the ball after tossing it from the holding handiii.
 
Hit the ball with the armsiv.
 
The legal ball may hit the net, but must go over and land in-boundsb.
 
When serving, the
service must wait for the referee’s whistle
before strikingthe ball. If they serve before the whistle, side-out shall be calledc.
 
If a player serves out of turn, side-out shall be called as soon as the mistake isdiscovered. Any points made by the illegal server shall be canceled. The servingorder should then be corrected immediately.d.
 
Players must stay in their respective serving order for the entire game. At thebeginning of a new game, they players may be rearranged. The referee shouldbe notified of these changes before the game begins.
 
IV.
 
Time Outs-
 
Teams are allowed one 30 second time-out per game.-
 
Time-outs may be requested by the coach or team captain any time the ball is dead.V.
 
Playing the Game1.
 
A player may not hit the ball twice in succession.2.
 
The ball may be contacted a maximum of three times by a team before it is sent overthe net.3.
 
If two or more players of the same team contact the ball simultaneously, it is consideredone play. The players involved may participate in the next play. This next play should becounted as an additional contact.4.
 
If tipping occurs, it must land behind the 10 ft line. The referee makes the call if tippingpossibly looks like a lift.5.
 
Lifts are not considered as a play and it would count as an out.6.
 
Ball crossing the net:a.
 
The ball must cross the net completely between the net antennas or theirindefinite extension. The ball is dead if it hits the net antennab.
 
If the ball touches net on the return, it must touch the net between the
antennas and go into the opponent’s court.
 c.
 
A ball striking the net and going over is still in playd.
 
The ball may be played when any part of it has crossed the top of the net. It is
not essential for the entire ball to be on the player’s side of the net before
played.e.
 
The only legal double hit allowed is if when executing a block, the ball comesthrough the hand
s and hits another part of the player’s body above the waist.
 7.
 
Illegal Net Play:a.
 
Holding or pushing the ball against the netb.
 
Touching the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play. If the ball isdriven into the net with
such it causes the net to contact a player on the opposing
team, no foul shall be called and the ball shall continue to be in play.c.
 
Reaching over the net:
1.
 
If a player reaches over the net on the follow through a foul shall not becalled.
2.
 
If a player in an attempt to block reaches over the net on a follow-through,whether or not they touch the ball, a foul shall not be called. (Providedsome part of the ball has crossed the net on the blocker's side before thefollow-through occurs.)d.
 
If during an attempt to block a ball, the ball is hit against the net with such forcethat it causes the net to move under the fingers or hand of the blocker, no foulsshall be called.e.
 
Reaching under the net:1.
 
A player may not reach under the net and touch the ball or a player on theopposing team when the ball is in play on the opponent's side of the court.
