Last Time Out
Mike Black scored on a driving layup with 3.7 seconds left andAlbany stunned Washington, rallying from a seven-point secondhalf deficit for a 63-62 win on Tuesday night. Abdul Gaddy gaveWashington the lead when he rebounded Aziz N’Diaye’s missedfree throw and scored in the lane with 16.5 seconds left. Albanygot the ball to Black at the top of the key and he quickly darted pastC.J. Wilcox and was able to score on a scooping right-handed layupto give the Great Danes (2-1) the lead. Gaddy got off a desperation30-footer that hit of the side of the rim and handed the Huskies(1-1) the loss. Black finished with 22 points, while Jacob Iati hit six3-pointers and added 20 for Albany. Gaddy led the Huskies with 16points and N’Diaye added 13 but was held to just one point in thesecond half. The game was played at Albany’s pace and the Huskies could never get the tempo they wanted. Itdidn’t help that Washington missed 11 free throws and was just 3 of 12 from 3-point range. Wilcox didn’t makehis first 3-pointer until there was 1:39 left and finished with 11 points. Scott Suggs left the game 90 secondsafter it started; taking an elbow and a knee to the head and suffering a concussion.
Washington vs. Ohio State/Big Ten
Washington holds an 8-3 all-time advantage over Ohio State, but the two teams have not met in the nearly 40years. The last time the two teams played was Dec. 1, 1972, when the Huskies notched a 67-63 win in Seattlein the season-opener. The last win for the Buckeyes over Washington came on Dec. 27, 1961 when No. 1 OhioState beat the Huskies 59-49 in the Los Angeles Classic. The Huskies have had a lot of success over the Big TenConference through history. They are 40-30 all-time against the conference, playing twice during the 2012 NITagainst Big Ten schools. The Huskies beat Northwestern, 76-55 in the second round of the NIT before droppinga 68-67 overtime decision to Minnesota in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden.
Washington vs. Rhode Island/Atlantic 10
The Huskies have never faced Rhode Island, but are 11-11 all-time against teams in the Atlantic 10 Confer-ence. The Huskies last played an A-10 team last season, when they dropped a 77-64 decision at Saint Louis. You have to go all the way back to Nov. 28, 1999 to find the last time the Huskies beat someone currently inthe Atlantic 10, when the Huskies beat Saint Louis 69-60 at the Big Island Invitational. Saint Louis was not amember of the A-10 at the time of that win. The last true A-10 team that Washington beat was Xavier in the1998 NCAA tournament.
