The history of Dallas begins back in 1839when John Neely Bryan, a distinguishedlawyer born in Tennessee, came in the area of today’s Dallas. The lawyer, who had adventur-ous spirit, was impressed by the desert landsnear the river. Bryan felt that this was an ideal place for trade development. Back in 1841,he purchased 640 acres of land, outlined a20-street urban plan thus pitting thefoundations of the present-day city of Dallas.Dallas has a legendary past that will always bea thread woven into the city’s rich andcolorful tapestry.Dallas’ slogan “Live Large. Think Big”describes the essence of a city that inspiresbig ideas. This meaningful and confidentapproach has resulted in world-class arts,culture, architecture, business and more, whichare constantly changing theappearance of the city.
