MIDS NAMED RHODES, MITCHELL, MARSHALL SCHOLARS


A record five midshipmen were selected for Rhodes, Marshall and Mitchell postgraduate scholarships. Midshipmen 1st Class Katie Whitcombe and Christian Heller were awarded Rhodes Scholarships, which provide two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England. Midshipmen 1st Class Ronald Allen and Katelyn Davidson were awarded Marshall Scholarships, which provide two years of postgraduate study at a U.K. university. Midshipman 1st Class Jonathan Poole received the Mitchell Scholarship, which provides one year of study at a university in Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Two Naval Academy midshipmen attended the Presidential Fellows Leadership Conference hosted by the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress Nov. 1-3 in Arlington, Va.

The commodore of the Cruising Club of America presented two trophies to the academys Offshore Sailing Team Nov. 13 for their performance during the Newport to Bermuda Race this summer.

Noah Copeland ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns, leading Navy to a 21-10 victory over Texas State Nov. 17. Copeland scored on runs of 15 and 16 yards as the midshipmen won for the sixth time in seven games.

MWR ZUMB A C L A S S

Zumba classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the MWR Recreation Services Bldg. #89 from through Dec. 13 (except Thanksgiving Day.) Classes are free for active duty and active reservists, $3/person for all others. Sign up and pay for each class at the MWR Customer Service Desk in Bldg. #89 just before class. YOUTH B ASKET B A L L

Sign up by Dec. 19 for MWRs youth basketball clinic. Kids age 5 to 10 are eligible. The clinic runs on Saturdays from Jan. 5 - Feb. 23. Cost is $50 per youth. Kids will learn basic drills and will participate in a scrimmage at the end of each session. For more information, call 410-293-4998.
