The Biggest ‘Killer’of Success
hen people ask me what doesit take to be a successful person inclass or any other environment orwhat they are doing, I often tellthem that my key to success maynot be their key to success and thatthe only way the can answer thatriddle is by first asking themselves
“What am I doing wrong?....Whatis holding me back?” If you can get
an answer to that then you can findways to stop it hence become suc-cessful.In this article am going touch onone of the main things that block our path to success, We all havefaced it at one point in time, Its all
around us, It’s the almighty Mr.
procrastination. One of my close friends from myfirst year in Alpha University toldme a story about a young man whowanted to build a house. He re-quired stones to do this which werehigh up the mountain. So he de-cided that every day, we would goup the mountain, pick one stone andbring it to this compound for thenext thirty days. In the first three orso days, he successful bought somestones to his home.On the fifth day, As he was on his way down with the fifthstone, he got tired and put the stone somewhere near the
mountain edge closer to his home then said “I’ll carry thisone tomorrow. Am so tired”. The next day, as he was pass-
ing that same spot, he again left another stone there, yet hewas very capable of carry both of them. The continued likethat for the remaining days and on the thirtieth day, hefound an entire block of stones were he put them. He, thenwondered how am I going to carry all this in one day.
We’ve all had that feeling when we are told that examsare one week away, we say I’ll read for it tomorrow, whentomorrow comes aah!! I have a big football game may I’ll
try over the weekends. When the weekend arrives friendscome to your house wanting to play video games or strollaround Hargeisa and before you know it, the exam datearrives without you even preparing, then you do last min-ute reading. As someone once put it, Procrastination is the thief of time and it comes in all shapes and forms. Procrastinationcomes from a lot of sources whether its being lazy, havinga tiresome day, Enjoying sleep. If you do it once or twice,It develops into a habit, that habit then develops into a dis-
ease and long before you know it, it’s a norm that you en-
joy.If a visitor comes to Alpha university around the break time between class, he/she would be amazed at the numberof students outside with their laptops and Smart phones
busy accessing the internet. He/she will be thinking “these
are hard working students, they really take online re-
search very seriously” but little do they know that they
are busy on facebook or just chatting.Procrastination however can be got rid off. Its high time
we woke up to this ‘thief’ and tell him that his ‘stealing’
days are over. There several ways of doing this but the key
lies in one’s mind. If we can train our minds against lazi-
ness, set a schedule and focus our minds so that we can ful-
fill our set objectives then there’s no way for procrastina-
tion to creep in.So the next time you wake up in the morning very tiredand not feeling like going to school, Tell Mr. Procrastina-tion to go away, wash your face with cold water and rushbefore you miss another class.
