Name_________________________ Coulson/Color your Words

Date_______________

Youve learned that each color makes a sound. If you know the color, that means you should be able to figure out how to correctly pronounce the word. Were going to put you to the test today! Below, I have included sets of consonants, but Ive removed the vowel sounds. =O For each set, I have then given you a list of colors. Can you combine the consonants with the colors to figure out what English words they form? Be careful when writing your answers - you have to spell the words right, too! Also, note that there could be more than one answer for some, if they are homonyms. First, lets look at some examples. If the clue is r_t, we could form many different words depending on the color of the verb. For example... ...if the word were grey, it would be rate. ...if the word were black, it would be rat. ...if the word were silver, it would be writ. (You probably dont know what that is, huh?!) ...if the word were white, it would be right OR write, because those are homonyms.

Now you try: ...if the word were olive, what would it be? __________ ...if the word were mustard, what would it be? __________ ...if the word were auburn, what would it be? __________ ...if the word were brown, what would it be? __________ ...if the word were blue, what would it be? __________ (ANSWERS: They would be rot, rut, wrought, route, and root or route.) OK, now you try! 1. t_k (example: if its olive, it would be tock, one of the sounds a clock makes.) green silver gray black white mustard rose auburn red

2. k_n (example: if its red, it would be Ken, a mans name.) green silver gray 3. r_d green silver gray white olive blue rose turquoise x black purple olive blue rose turquoise
