COMPOSITION OF FOREIGN

WORKER

Malaysian economy growths over the period 1998-2000. i.e prior to the Asian financial crisis. Lack of workers in Malaysia in various sectors. The work was rejected by the locals. Lower wages than local workers.

The number of foreign workers has increased to 1.1 million in 2000. Latest immigration statistics indicate that the number of legal foreign workers in Malaysia rise. Majority of foreign workers are from Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.
