Motorists Advised Testing of Speed Camera Equipment to Begin inDecember
City Officials to Evaluate Technology at 4 Locations for 1 Month
The Office of Emergency Management and Communications is advising motorists thatthere will be temporary testing of speed camera equipment at four locations during amonth-long evaluation of technologies.The systems will be in operation from December 3 to January 3 and will be operating forthe sole purpose of evaluating the equipment. No violations will be issued based ondata from the cameras during the test period. However, motorists should always obeythe posted speed limit.City officials are testing both mobile camera systems and permanent camera systems,which will be temporarily installed at:
McKinley Park, at approximately 2223 W. Pershing Road
Warren Park, at approximately 6541 N. Western Ave
Dulles Elementary School, at approximately 6340 S. King Drive
Near North Montessori School, at approximately 1446 W. DivisionA variety of factors determined the test locations, including location within a safetyzone, frequency of speed related crashes, and ease of accessibility to power. Thesystems will be removed after the evaluation period.The Department of Transportation is installing signs to inform motorists of theevaluation period and that no violations will be issued.
