 The Nation’s Triathlon™ Announces The 2nd Annual Nation’s Triathlon™ UMUC Military Challenge
 WASHINGTON, DC
– The Nation’s Triathlon™ and University of Maryland University College (UMUC) announced today that registration for the 2

Annual Nation’s Triathlon™ UMUCMilitary Challenge, is open. Active duty and veteran members of the military are invited to competein The Nation’s Triathlon™, an Olympic distance triathlon taking place Sunday, September 13, 2009and featuring a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, 40k bike course through downtown D.C., and a10k run along Washington, DC’s monumental corridor. To date, more than 220 military competitors have already signed up and space is limited. Those interested are urged to register early. To register for The Nation’s Triathlon™ Military Challenge, go to  www.nationstri.com.   According to Charles Brodsky, founder of The Nation’s Triathlon™, “Participating in TheNation’s Triathlon™, in the shadow of some of our greatest military memorials, from the World War II Memorial to the U.S. Navy Memorial, is a great way for active duty military and veterans totest their fitness and competitive spirit and remember those who came before them. We are proudto recognize those who serve in defense of our nation with both an active duty military division and veteran team competition.“As a university with a history of serving the largest number of active duty military and theirdependents, we are proud to sponsor The Nation’s Triathlon™ Military Challenge for the secondconsecutive year,” said UMUC President Susan C. Aldridge. “For more than sixty years, we havesupported our nation’s servicemembers, and we are thrilled to continue that support in a unique way as they run, swim and bike through our Nation’s capital.” Active duty and veteran military personnel can compete as singles or as teams. The topmilitary competitors and teams will be recognized at the conclusion of the race in their owncategory. Last year’s winners included Kyle Hooker of the Naval Academy, who posted a time of 2:08:06. Samantha Bird was the top female military competitor, posting a time of 2:18:40.-more-
