With a Fellowship of over seven hundred and fifty of the UK’s leading medical scientists from hospitals,academia, industry and public service, the Academyof Medical Sciences campaigns to ensure advances inmedical science are rapidly translated into benefits forpatients. As an independent body seeking to promotemedical sciences across traditional disciplinaryboundaries, the Academy is the only organisation thatrepresents interests across the whole spectrum of academic medicine from veterinary science todentistry to nursing care. The Academy is a youngorganisation, founded in 1998, but has a clear senseof purpose and is committed to:
providing national and international leadership inthe medical sciences
ensuring excellence in medical research
timely application of knowledge to improve healthfor present and future generations
objective, impartial interpretation of emergingevidenceThere is an elected Council of 22 Fellows whichincludes the five Officers of the Academy:
