Welcome back Popi to Pop! Goes theCulture. While this isn't a "special" issue (yes, yes, that issue will be coming out...eventually....hopefullythisweekendI'msorryIfeelpressurewhenIhavetowrite"special"things...like birthday cards) it's still"special" because this marks the official one-year anniversary of Pop! Goes the Culture.It's been quite a year, and while I'll wax nostalgic in another e-mail, I'd like to just give a quick thank toeveryone for your continual support over these twelve months or so. I'm hoping in the next two monthsor so to introduce some new and exciting additions to this e-mail so be on the look out.One change that I'm toying around with, which you can see, is distributing Pop! Friday mid-day,instead of Friday mornings. While I'll certainly lose those sleep-deprived gems, I think Pop! will gain amore concise, logical flow. From the first song I listened to, I totally got why a) she exclaimed so much about this band and b) whyshe got up and danced her ass off when she saw them. These guys are raw energy - not only do their musical styling lend (traditional Brazilian meets surf rock) itself to powerful, groovy tunes, but there'ssomething so emphatic and moving about the way the perform. I want to see this band, I want todance with this band, I want to do tequila shots with this band.2) This is How Rumors Get Startedhttp://www.myspace.com/thisishowrumorsgetstartedAs with other "cutely" named bands, I was initially hesitant to check out this group, which formed upMassachusetts (I want to say some of the members when to Berklee, but that would be a total rumor)but one listen and I was hooked.There's something smart about this band. They're not a bookish band by any means, but they take asmart approach to writing pop songs. Not as bombastic as New Pornographers, but definitely catchyin their own right. Love the trade off of vocalists from guy to girl - it gives the band versatility, but not sodifferent as to make it seem like two different bands (which happens often with coed vocalists.)Track Listing:1.
