Mrs. Shope’s Scoop
Happening this week in…
November 30, 2012
This week, we have really focusedon learning our short vowel soundsfor a, e, i, o, and u. We have readmany different books to help uslisten for the sounds of the shortvowel letters. We have also used our SMART board quite a bit this week as we have practicedsegmenting and spelling CVC (consonant-vowel-
consonant) words. I can‟t w
ait to see how these smartlittle people will use these vowels as they read and writein their journals each day. There is a great website to help your smart little personat home with their short vowel sounds. Please go tostarfall.com, and click on
the tab „learn to read.‟ From
there, any of the first five stories listed are great ways tohelp your children practice reading with short vowels athome.
This week, we have added several pages to our math journals. We reviewed our shapes as we finished a
“shape turkey” that these little
mathematicians completed in Ms.
Holloway‟s room during
Thanksgiving rotations lastWednesday. They used alldifferent shapesto create their very own turkey, and then, they had to tally andrecord how many of each shape they used.
We alsoadded our November calendar to our Math Journal togive us some extra practice writing our numbers.
Please be on the lookout for your child‟s
November journal to come home in their backpack on Monday, December 3.
Please return these by Friday, December 7.
Please dress your child in a red, green, or white shirt/outfit for theHoliday Program on Friday. Thankyou!

They also hada blast going to the spa, fitness room, game room, disco room, pool room, and my personal favorite,
