For the entire last semester, I’ve had agroup of older iMac covered sitting onthe floor of my room. There are abouttwenty of them. The covers are dusty;nobody has come to ask for them. Theyare orphans.Recently a teacher that would like tohave them contacted me. He is at an-other school. He wants sixteen of themto go with the eight I sent to him lastsemester. Back then I held back givinghim more because I thought somebodyhere would want them. I was wrong no-body wanted those old computers. Thecomputers would have served his stu-dents at Montebello High School betterthan staying here. It’s a simple process of shifting inventoryto another site. District Office sends amoving crew to take them. My room getsless clutter, the computers get use, stu-

The Ride: 994 Miles to See the
MacWorld Conference 2007 at the Moscone Center in San Fran-cisco was the site for the unveiling of the much-anticipated iPhoneand iTV. The timing was right for me to ride north to see it in per-son. I’ve ridden to San Francisco before, this time I was in no rushgoing north. I left at 10 am and rode to Salinas for the night. It wasa beautiful daytime ride; traffic was slight, the weather warm, andthe ride fast. The next morning I rode to Moscone to proffer myfree pass (a $45 value). I spent a few hours wandering the exhibi-tor’s hall checking out the latest in Apple accessories. I left at 6pm to ride home to Anaheim. The ride back was hurried. I onlystopped for gas, caffeine and a smoke. Just north of Gilroy, I madea stop around eleven or so. Less than ten minutes on the freewayand a CHP pulls me over and sites me for speeding. He says Ipassed him at 100mph. I never saw him. It ruined an otherwisewonderful trip. I thought it odd when he asked me, “Do you haveany relatives in the CHP?” as he eyed my big BMW motorcycle. Isaid, “No.” My suggestion… cultivate CHP connections soon.

computers to a SUI teacher thatwas using them for typing instruction. These obsolete computers found new pur-pose in the hands of a teacher that knewhow to use them.My other option is to call DO and tellthem, “Get these antiques out of myroom, they’re just gathering dust and tak-ing up too much space in my room.” Thecrew comes, the computers are sold inbulk at auction and reduced to their com-ponent parts and sold as scrap, I suppose.I don’t have the mice I ordered for thesecomputers, and some will be missing key-boards but I know Brick will be able tosupply the missing parts to make themuseful and a benefit to MUSD studentsonce again.
