Lord’s Day 9 – Psalm 103:6-19
6
The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
7
He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:
8
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
9
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10
he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
11
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
12
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
14
for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
15
As for mortals, their days are like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field;
16
the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
17
But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousnesswith their children's children—
18
with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
19
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

How do we sort it all out? What do we mean when we say God?Tonight as we work through this we find that the roadmap for our discussion has only one question…
26 Q. What do you believe when you say, "I believe in God, theFather almighty,creator of heaven and earth"?
This is important because defining what we mean when we use theterm God will give us helpful boundaries to understanding whatconstitutes the Church and what doesn’t.[Caveat: About “defining God”] – when I use the term “define” Imean it in a very broad sense – not in terms of creating a definitionfor God – putting God in our own convenient box – but instead Iuse the word define as OUR PUTTING TO WORDS THETHINGS THAT WE KNOW ABOUT GOD FROM HOW WEEXPERIENCE HIM THROUGH HIS WORD AND IN OUR LIVES.Think about COLOUR
I define this (whatever) as (thiscolour)…I don’t make up the colour but instead I describe myexperience of it in ways that are understandable…that’s what Imean when you hear me say “We define God in this way…”So how about defining God: as we work through Lord’s Day 9tonight we’re going to find that the first way we define God is asthe Creator…

I. God, The Creator
A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,who out of nothing created heaven and earth andeverything in them,
The first way that we both define and encounter God is as a creator
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. If wewanted to answer the question: What does God do – we could saythat one thing He does is create.And this is an important thing to pay attention to because as welive in this world we need to understand our connection to God.Think of it this way [illustration – other people’s children versusyour own] – you’re going to have a very different relationship…Because God is creative, there is a connection that exists betweenHim and the things that He creates. The Universe and everythingthat we find in it is tied to God in a very close and personal way.And when we think about God in this way – as a creative God – we are drawn to think about what He created.Views of the Creation of the Universe.1.
