“It is a bedrock principle of administrative law, not to mention the very essence of
executive branch operations in a democratic republic, that serious public policy actions be
undertaken within the full view of the people,” said Andrew Langer, President of IFL.
“Not only must the public be allowed to make substantive comment on administrative
proposals, but executive branch agencies are obligated to consider that public input.
Otherwise, agencies behave arbitrarily, and their leaders are autocratic at best!
“Clearly, this report underscores the need for greater transparency at the Federal
Communications Commission. Executive branch personnel must be held accountable for
their actions. Without that accountability and transparency, the government sinks into a
morass of despotism.”
