HOUSTON FIREFIGHTERS ENDORSE ALVARADOIN RACE FOR TEXAS SENATE
 HOUSTON - State Representative Carol Alvarado has received thebacking of Houston Firefighters in her campaign for Texas StateSenate District 6. She is running to succeed the late Senator MarioGallegos, a former Houston Firefighter who passed away in October.
 
 Alvarado has been endorsed by the Houston ProfessionalFirefighters Association Local 341, which represents over 3,800 menand women who serve in the nation's third largest fire department."I am honored to receive the support of Houston Firefighters," Alvarado said. "These men and women put themselves on the lineevery day to protect the people of this community, and it means agreat deal that they are supporting with me, particularly sinceSenator Gallegos was one of their own.""Mario Gallegos was our brother," said Local 341 President Jeff Caynon. "While we still grieve his passing, we are proud to standwith Carol Alvarado to succeed him in the Senate. She is a strongadvocate for firefighters and public safety and we believe she is thebest candidate to continue Mario's work."Carol Alvarado serves District 145 in the Texas House of Representatives, which covers southeast Harris County. Previously, Alvarado served three terms on Houston City Council, as aneconomic development consultant for Houston's East Endneighborhoods, and as an aide to Congressman Gene Green andHouston Mayor Lee Brown. Alvarado is a native of Houston's East End and a lifelong resident of Senate District 6. She is a graduate of the University of Houston,with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Masters inBusiness Administration. Carol is a proud homeowner in theIdylwood neighborhood of Houston's East End and attends St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.###
