WEEKENDFOCUS

A\ue003rica Kenya is declaring a national state o\ue003 emergency
because o\ue003 a drought a\ue001ecting 10 million people.
Since the violence last year, displacement o\ue003 people,
the lack o\ue003 rain, and the doubling o\ue003 \ue003ood prices have
brought desperate shortages. Please pray \ue003or rain,
as well as wisdom \ue003or the authorities as they seek
to distribute \ue003ood aid and relie\ue003 services to the most

needy.

NORTH-EAST DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGOTh e

Lord\u2019s Resistance Army troops continue to cause
violence, despite a three-nation joint action against
them in mid-December. The group are also active in
the Central A\ue003rican Republic, Southern Sudan and
Northern Uganda, and many people have \ue000ed their
homes. Please pray \ue003or people and \ue003or the churches
in the areas a\ue001ected and that God will intervene and
stop the violence.

INTERNATIONAL OFFICE Please pray \ue003or wisdom \ue003or

Aim\u2019s leaders in their day to day decision-making.
Please also pray \ue003or their decision making in crisis
situations, where a balance has to be maintained
between trusting in God and caring \ue003or personnel in a
responsible way.

CENTRAL REGION Lyn Cooke, based in Kampala,

writes that spiritualism is active in Uganda, where there are newspaper reports o\ue003 child abductions and sacrifces. Pray \ue003or Ugandans who live in \ue003ear o\ue003 evil

SYNERGY Pray \ue003or all the young people serving in

A\ue003rica, including Matthew Butler in Uganda and
Amy Deakin in Chad, both who have recently arrived
there. Also pray \ue003or the \u2018Into A\ue003rica?\u2019 Seminar at the
European Headquarters in Nottingham tomorrow and
that the Lord will call people he has equipped to make
a commitment to both short and longer term mission
in A\ue003rica.

WEEKENDFOCUS

Translation. William Cray (P\ue003A p.8) writes that while
it is encouraging to have Matthew\u2019s gospel in Ndam
in print, there remains the problem o\ue003 literacy, and
he has been working hard on a \u2018Transitional Primer\u2019
in Ndam, \ue003or people already able to read French. This
and a \ue003ull Ndam alphabet chart, are now in print. Give
praise that these have been well received, and please
pray \ue003or their Ndam colleague and \ue003riend David on
his own during their Home Assignment, and that the
scripture already distributed will bear \ue003ruit.

CREATIVE ACCESS NATIONS Some o\ue003 our personnel are

working in various capacities in countries not
open to traditional mission work. Pray \ue003or their lives
to show the communities they work in what it means
to be a Christian, and that they will have interesting
and \ue003ruit\ue003ul conversations. Pray \ue003or success in their
various occupations and \ue003or \ue003avourable responses in
applications \ue003or visas and business registration. Our
prayer is vital \ue003or this work to succeed.

MISSIONARIES ON THE MOVE. Please pray \ue003or Simon

and Sue French and \ue003amily (P\ue003A p.13), moving
to Karatu to begin their ministry among the Datooga
people a\ue003ter many months o\ue003 language learning. They
will miss their many \ue003riends in Mariwanda; please pray
\ue003or them settling in and \ue003or guidance as they prepare
their Bible teaching programme.

Lynne Glass in Marseille gives thanks \ue003or
Christmas activities in the Welcome Centre and in her

house, when several ladies went away with copies o\ue003
Luke\u2019s Gospel, and everyone enjoyed party games and
wanted more parties! Pray \ue003or the special outreaches
planned \ue003or this month and next month at the

Welcome Centre.

Maureen Prior working in outreach in Bristol
in partnership with a church there. Please also pray
\ue003or Moira McInnes in Glasgow working with asylum
seekers and re\ue003ugees in partnership with a church.
Moira is thank\ue003ul to have an opening into the local
primary school where she and the minister run classes.

Remember them as they represent the Mission
at various meetings and meet with churches and

preparing to move into college education. Pray \ue003or

the best way \ue003orward and supply all their needs. Pray
\ue003or wisdom \ue003or Barbara as she heads up Aim\u2019s \u2018Third
Culture Kids\u2019 work.
