Every Wednesday and Friday the students go into their specific reading groupswhich are combined with the two third grade classes (Mrs. Tesch and Mrs.DeMers). At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Tesch and Mrs. DeMers grouped thestudents into three groups based on their reading levels and abilities. I havebeen working with the lower-end students who need help. The students stay ineach group for 20 minutes and then switch. There is usually one group with Mrs.Tesch in her room, one in Mrs. DeMers
room, and then one group out in the hallwith a student teacher or volunteer. On this particular day, I was with Mrs. Teschin her room with the lower-skilled students for reading practice. Mrs. Tesch wasdoing a word sort with the

et, -at, -it, -ot, and

ut endings. She had put thewords pet, pat, pit, pot, and put as the example words for the chart. Sheinstructed the students to put the correct words under the correct endings. Shestarted out by writing a list of words on the board and told them to correctly sortthem. Next, she o
rally said another list of words, but didn’t write them on the
board. Finally, she told them to think of their own word, one for each category. After everyone was finished, she went over the correct placements and askedstudents to share their words. The very last thing she did before we switchedreading groups was that she had students flip their paper over and use as many
