Legislation Requested to Crack Down on Illegal Dirt Bike Racers
Legislation Requested to Crack Down on Illegal DirtBike Racers
For this upcoming legislative session, I have asked the Legislative Commissioners' Officeto draft a bill to stiffen penalties on illegal dirt bike and ATV riders in New Haven. You canread more about the issue at theNew Haven Independentor watch onYouTube.
Under current state law, municipalities can impound dirt bikes and ATV's. However, thelaw caps towing and storage fees at $250 per vehicle. Limiting penalties to $250 isoutmoded, and should be increased. I will work with city officials and law enforcement tomake sure we have a law with realistic penalties to protect public safety. This is a serious quality-of-life issue for New Haven. I've heard from residents around thedistrict about the dangerous stunts pulled by illegal motorcycle riders. Most of thecomplaints center around Edgewood Park, but this is a serious problem across the city.My proposed legislation is a small part of the solution to make sure our sidewalks, roadsand parks are safe. I am excited the city and Board of Alderman are cracking down – working together, we will solve this problem. Please feel free to share your stories, concerns and ideas onFacebook. You can also check out my documents onScribd.comandhttp://www.scribd.com/my_document_collections.Sincerely,
