Highwaymen
This classification covers all types of bandits, brigands, outlaws, etc. Just like the Martial Artist class, thesetypes are a generalization within which the players can construct a character to suit their own world's culturalsituation.Highwaymen generally wear only the lighter types of armor, such as studded leather or light chain mail. This isto facilitate fast getaways after their nefarious deeds are done, Whether they use shields depends on their cultural orientation. The same can be said for their choice of weaponry; however, under no circumstances willthey use encumbering or unwieldy weapons such as halberds or other pole arms. They will also usually favor some form of missile weapon, preferably one that can be used while mounted and on the move, like a lightcrossbow. Because of that constant need to move around and to have to survive in the open, no Highwaymancan have a CON score of less than 15, nor can he have a WIS score greater than 9. Really, It’s not wise to floutthe laws of the land! As a Warrior subclass, the Highwayman adds +5 to his base HP, Just as Warriors do, andhas the same advantages of primary and secondary weapon classes. His BF advancement rate is 1.000.They must be able to do many of the things that Thieves can do, and that is reflected in the following chart. They must also have connections with both the Slavers Guild and the Thieves Guild, so they then can sell their spoils. As well as earning experience for fighting, Highwaymen earn experience for selling what they take. They receive 10 EP for each 100 G.S. they get for a prisoner, in ransom or sale on the block, and 1 EP for each100 G.S. value of goods that they fence. Their relations with both the Thieves and the Slavers is somewhatstrained, because the Highwayman encroaches on both of their territories; however, the expedience of their  position requires getting along. Still, there is ample room for death and fighting at the slightest provocationamongst themselves.Remember, Highwaymen are characters who kill only when necessary, much preferring to ransom their captives. In fact, most Highwaymen will do battle with other Highwaymen who kill rather than capture. They do this because the local law enforcement types (militia, King's guard, etc.) will move very quickly to rootout a murderer, but will usually tell a kidnap victim's family to pay the ransom, as their son, daughter, etc., is perfectly safe, and they can rely on a safe return if prompt payment is made. That is, of course, unless the victimis a highborn noble, in which case the law will usually move very rapidly indeed! At any rate, mostHighwaymen will not let a murdering few ruin all of their business! So play accordingly, and have fun tellingall and sundry to "stand and deliver!"
