What can a principal do?
1. Show your interest

Be involved with the library whenpossible. Students notice who is or who isn’t in the library. You can youpop by the library to flip though new books or to ask students what they are reading. By interacting withstudents and the teacher-librarian, you are showing that you care.2. Set a good example

Students will read when they seesurrounding adults read. You candefinitely involve yourself in even aminor part of the school readingprogram. Even if it means stopping by a class to read for 10 minutes, this would mean a lot to many students in your school.3. Join the team!

The school library is always seekingteam members. It takes more thanthe teacher-librarian to promoteschool-wide reading programs. With your help, the school library can usean extra hand when trying to reachout to the rest of the schoolcommunity (i.e. other staff members).4. Be involved

Involvement of parents andcooperation of the public library can benefit your school. Involve yourself in various areas of the community tomaximize resources and spread the word.5. Share and Learn
