Would you like to support a historical area of New Orleans?
Oct. 15, 2012Dear Mrs. Kathryn Kissam:New Orleans is full of historical places that need to be preserved for this generation andfuture generations to come. The Bywater neighborhood is located from Press Street to theIndustrial Canal and is rich with unique history. The Bywater Community DevelopmentCorporation was started initially to focus on the area’s improvement. The mission statementis “to promote the safety and well being of all New Orleans' Bywater residents by nurturing asense of community through strong support for the arts, commerce, home ownership, andeducation.” This neighborhood is filled with so much history from the beginning of working-class New Orleans. It is filled with historic churches, small businesses, warehouse structuresand residences. Although the Bywater Community Development Corporation is a strong group, it still needs support monetarily to keep it as well as the neighborhood associationsafloat. We are contacting you in hopes that you and Denovo Communications will aid in the effortsfor our BR PRessworks event, which will be held on Nov. 10, 2012. We are a public relationsservice-learning firm based out of Louisiana State University that is putting on a SCVNGRevent for the art walk on St. Claude. SCVNGR is a mobile app that is similar to a scavengerhunt. Participants earn points every challenge they complete. We are hoping to raise moneyfor our grand prize winner. The Bywater Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit organization that aims toboost business for its local vendors and artists. All profits eventually return to the Bywaterneighborhood in some fashion, particularly through events such as the Mirliton Festival,PhotoNOLA and the Fringe Festival. For this reason, we are left with a very small budget thatwill not cover all of the costs for our art walk event. Please be a part of keeping this historical place alive. With your donation, we will be able tohave the event and award someone with a grand prize. Your contribution will help fulfillBywater Community Development Corporation’s mission and allow more people in theBywater area to have access to the benefits the nonprofit has to offer.Sincerely,Kirsti OrtegoBR PRessworks account liaison
