Cop cautioned
A senior police officer, who was one of theofficers’ in-charge for the funeral processionof the man who self immolated and died atShastri Bhavan supporting the Lankan Tamilcause, apparently received a dressing downfrom a top politician. The khaki who wascautioned in full public view couldn’tsay a word as the politician’ssupporters surrounded the cop insupport of their leader.

A clerk at the Commissionerate,who was suspended for acceptingbribe, is now on the quest to regain hispost. He is running from pillar to post andknocking doors at police and politicalpower corridors and he had learnt thatmany similar offenders are being placedunder suspension for as long as five yearsand more.

A top cop who was in the suburbs wasrecently transferred to a key post in city.Reliable sources revealed that the post wascontested by over five other khakis and thiscop got successful. major fire broke out insidethe lubricants plant at theHindustan Petroleum Cor-poration Limited (HPCL)terminus in Tondiarpet on Sun-day morning. The fire that lastedfor more than two hours wasputout before it could spread tothe other parts of the terminus. White smoke started to puff out at around 10 a.m. from theSmalls Filling Plant next to theQuality Control Laboratory onthe central back area of the ter-minus. The plant that used tostore, segregate and label auto-mobile lubricants into smallquantities was soon engulfed by a raging inferno. A total of 26 vehicles, includ-ing foam and fire tenders andmetro water lorries battled theblaze till 1 p.m. The cause of thefire is suspected to be an electri-cal fault and the loss is estimatedto be worth more than Rs 1crore. No one was injured in theincident.

the world of identical twins is amusing, atleast on celluloid.How about in the real world? Do they think alike, walk alike and end up being mistaken for each other? As if it weren’t enough thatthey look alike, C.B. Naveenand C.B. Praveen dress, think and also act alike. Everything at home is identical for thetwo, from clothes to bed-spreads to coffee mugs andmobile phones. And they arean inseparable pair, they say.Both studied in the sameschool and college, now work for the same company andhave the same set of friends.“Probably, it is only now that we are kind of separated;both of us work for differentsections and shifts,” they laugh, saying that otherwise it would create confusionamong the associates. In fact,Praveen and Naveen say they got the job at Sify Technolo-gies because of the similarity in their appearance. “Thepanel looked in wonder at usand their questions pertainedto our identity,” they recall.The brothers take special joy in their status. Right fromthe security staff at the TidelPark entrance (who let themin without checking their IDs)to the traffic cops from whomthey get away for driving with-out helmets, the boys seemsto be enjoying others’ confu-sion. Friends and relativesgifting them have to makesure they get an identical pairor the twins do not accept.But, do all twins tend tothink and act alike? Not al- ways. Like Arun H. and VarunH. – one works for a softwarefirm, the other for a bank.Both don’t think they shouldbe noticed in a crowd. “Eachof us has his own preferences. We don’t dress alike, as it only confuses others,” says Arun.So, is bringing up twins allhunky-dory for parents? Notall parents will vouch for that.Sudha Sai Prasad, mother of Raajive Prasad and Ragav Pra-sad, another set of nine-year-old twins, at least doesn’tsound very amused. “It is notalways a double joy,” she says.“Getting admission for thechildren in the same schoolhas so far been the most diffi-cult task. Three schools reject-ed saying they cannot offertwo seats.” But she derives joy dressing them alike and cap-turing the different stages of their childhood through pho-tographs.So, let’s start ‘Spot the Dif-ference’.
