ABSTRACT
Bluetooth is the name given to a new technology using short range Radiolinks, intended to replace the cables connecting portable and / or fixed Electronic devices. It is envisaged that it will allow for the replacement of many one device to another withone universal radio link. Its key features are robustness, low complexity, low power andlow cost. Designed to operate in noisy frequency environment, the Bluetooth radio uses afast acknowledgement and frequency-hopping scheme to make the link Robust. The etymology of the name Bluetooth can be reported here, it comes from atenth century Scandinavian king Herald Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a Reference to the tamingof a myriad of unruly computing standards by defining one worldwide specification. Thus we see that Bluetooth is a technology that is now becoming commercially available. It promises to change significantly the way we use machines.Bluetooth has a good future ahead because it meets a basic need of Connectivity in close proximate. As a result of success of
WAP
(wireless application protocol), adoption of smart phones and hand held devices, Bluetooth will havetremendous effects on everyday life. Bluetooth is one of the key technologies that canmake the mobile information society possible, blurring the boundaries between home, office, and the outside world. This paper provides an
Overview of Bluetooth technology, what is it? TheHistory of Bluetooth technology.
This paper also concentrates on
Bluetooth technology, Bluetooth profiles, howthe technology works, and the products available under Bluetooth that is BluetoothGPS Receivers, Cell phones, Bluetooth Audio.
Finally it tells about the
Security measures of Bluetooth technology, Futureof Bluetooth, Precautions and the Bluetooth consortium.

Introduction
Bluetooth
is an industrial specification for wireless personal area networks (PANs).Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers and digitalcameras via a secure, low-cost, globally available short range radio frequency. The name Bluetooth was born from the 10th century king of Denmark, King HaroldBluetooth who engaged in diplomacy which led warring parties to negotiate with eachother. The inventors of the Bluetooth technology thought this a fitting name for their technology which allowed different devices to talk to each other

Bluetooth is aradiostandard primarily designed for low power consumption, with a shortrange(power class dependent: 10centimeters,10meters,100 meters) and with a low- cost transceiver  microchipin each device. Bluetooth lets these devices talk to each other when they come in range, even if they arenot in the same room, as long as they are within up to 100 meters of each other, dependent on the power class of the product. Products are available in one of three power classes:
