Barrie Tan, Ph.D., earned his bachelor’s degree in
chemistry and doctorate in analytical chemistry at theUniversity of Otago, New Zealand, and later became aprofessor of chemistry and food science/nutrition at theUniversity of Massachusetts, Amherst. His researchexpertise included lipid-soluble materials such ascarotenoids, tocotrienols/tocopherols, CoQ10, omega-3s
and cholesterol. He was the first to introduce tocotrienol’s
benefits to our nutrition industry. He founded AmericanRiver Nutrition Inc. in 1998 and developed the first evertocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annattobeans. Today, the focus of his research is onphytonutrients that have an impact on chronic,degenerative and cancer diseases.
