The Fargo Beat

December 6, 2012
Sometimes I like to turn on The Avengers soundtrack while doing mundane tasks (you know likepaperwork, data entry, etc.) just to make me feel really epic. Today, I turned it on while doing myregular already epic duties (writing The Beat, shoulder dancing, etc.) and I’m pretty sure I turned into asuperhero.

The Sessions (R) –
Based on the poignantly optimistic autobiographical writings of California-based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien, The Sessions tells the triumphant story of a manconfined to an iron lung (John Hawkes) who is determined—at age 38—to lose his virginity. With the help of a professional sex surrogate (Helen Hunt) and the guidance of his therapists.
Searching for Sugar Man (PG-13) –
A new documentary from the producer of Man on Wire. How is it possible that a musician named Rodriquez could bomb with two albums in the U.S.,disappear into obscurity for years and then be unknowingly resurrected as a successful, inspirational hero in totally different country? Witness the uplifting, almost unbelievable truemystery in this story about hope and resonating power of music.
Plains Art Museum is pleased to showcase the exhibit “No Lumps, Thank You: A Bra Anthologie”,works by Meg Spielman Peldo, Oct 19 – Jan 31. No Lumps is a humorous and poignantphotographic collection of playful brassieres, created from a wide and wild variety of commonobjects. Conceptually and visually connected to the art of the readymade (art made fromeveryday objects), and to the art of Renaissance master Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who createdimaginative portraits from fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books, Spielman-Peldo’s work is acontemporary twist on the genre of still life. The artist creates remarkably clever images thatappeal to both sexes and virtually all age groups. This body of work was created to supportwomen fighting breast cancer, highlighting this serious issue while raising awareness.
