KEY FINDINGS
The nationa constrction indstry contined to contract inNovember, athogh the pace o decine moderated or a secondconsective month.
November saw both activity and empoyment contract at a sowerrate. However, nderining the ragiity o overa demand, new ordersand deiveries rom sppiers decined more sharpy.
The seasonay adjsted Astraian Indstry Grop/ Hosing IndstryAssociation Perormance o Constrction Index increased by 1.2 pointsin November to 37.0. The index has now remained beow the critica50-point eve (that separates expansion rom contraction) or30 consective months.
By sector, the rate o contraction in hose biding and commerciaconstrction remained broady nchanged rom the previos month.In contrast, apartment biding activity decined at its sowestpace in amost two years, whie the rate o decine in engineeringconstrction activity eased sighty dring the month.
Bsinesses that reported decines in activity mainy inked thisto sbded demand conditions and the ndermining inenceso project deays, a ack o pbic sector tenders and tight creditconditions. However, on a positive note, hose biders continedto report an improvement in cstomer enqiries and irst homebyer activity.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY AND CApACITY
In seasonay adjsted terms, the activity sb-index registered 35.8in November.
This was 0.6 points above the eve in the previos month, indicatinga sight easing in the rate o contraction in tota indstry activity.
This rest reected the inence o sower rates o decine inapartment biding and engineering constrction.
Constrction capacity tiisation remained at a weak eve, athoghthe rate improved rom o 63.7% in October to 65.6% in November.
 ACTIVITY BY SECTOR
Hose biding conditions remained sbded with the sector’sactivity sb-index registering 40.8. This was 0.2 points beow theprevios month’s reading, signaing a broady nchanged rate ocontraction in November.
The apartment biding activity sb-index increased markedy by 14.9points in November to 42.5, the sector’s sowest rate o contractionsince Febrary 2011.
Commercia constrction again contracted sharpy, athogh its rateo decine was broady nchanged rom the previos month, withthe activity sb-index rising by 0.1 points to 37.5.
The rate o decine in engineering constrction moderated sighty inNovember with the sector’s sb-index rising by 1.2 points to 36.3.
