There are three steps.
1.
You must first create
NIHMSID
and “
PMCID
fields in the
Journal Article
REFERENCE TYPE
.
Open EndNote. Select
Edit
, then
Preferences
. In the left-hand pane click on
Reference Types
. Choose
Journal Article
reference type. Now click on
ModifyReference Types.
Scroll down to assign
NIHMSID
to
Custom 2
field and
PMCID
to
Custom 3
field. Figure 2.
.Click
OK
to save the modified Journal Article reference type. Click
OK
to savechanges to preferences.
2.
Download the following modified EndNote files to your EndNote applicationfolder. They are designed to extract the PMCID number from the PubMed record.:
