Rachel is a continuous source of comfort to her
children
davening for her children and eliciting the
Hashems promise of her children's return to theirPromised Land
Kever Rachel is located in the city of Beis Lachem, just
south of Yerusalem. For centuries, it lay on a desertedroadside, and Rachel's descendantswould come here to pour out their hearts to her - themother who dwells in a lonely wayside grave in order
to be there for her suffering children.

When Rachel died, Yacov and his family were onlya short distance from Beis Lachem. Yet he did notbring his most beloved wife Rachel into that townto be buried, nor did he bring her home with him toChevron, but he buried her in the middle ofnowhere, on the side of the road.
 Why?

Yackov foresaw that in the future, following thedestruction of the First Bais Hamikdash, the Jewswould be driven from their homes and forced intoexile in Bavel. On their dispirited march they wouldpass on this very road, and they would cry toRachel. They would take courage from her presence, and she would beseech Hashem on their behalf.
