Follow signs to race parking. You cant miss it. From the Santa Monica Frwy (10) Vermont Ave exit, head North on Vermont, which leads into Griffith Park. From the Hollywood Frwy (101) Northbound to the Vermont Ave exit, North on Vermont, follow it to the park. From the Hollywood Frwy (101) Southbound to the Vine Street exit. Go straight under the underpass, you will be going East on Franklin. Turn left on Western and follow it around as it becomes Los Feliz. Turn left on Vermont and follow it to the park. ABOUR THE PARK GRIFFITH PARK: Vermont Canyon Park is located next to the Greek Theater, Los Angeles' premiere outdoor theatre, is nestled in the picturesque tree-enclosed setting of Griffith Park. With over 4,210 acres of both natural chaparal-covered terrain and landscaped parkland and picnic areas, Griffith Park is the largest park in the City of Los Angeles as well as the largest municipal park with urban wilderness area in the United States. ABOUT THE COURSE: Course features include: a slightly uphill paved straightaway start/finish and is comprised of 15% grass,15 % pavement, and 70% dirt. This 3.5 km course begins with a 100 meter pavement section then turns left into the park all the while meandering slightly uphill into grass twisting through the park. It includes one double barrier section, and has one natural forced dismount section and one stairs section. There will be a double pit (2-way) location in the center of the course, splitting the midway points in each direction of the course. It will include a bike wash station for races in progress. An auxiliary wash will be located in the bike pit as needed and near the south end of parking lot. COURSE IS OPEN FOR RIDER INSPECTION 8:30am on race day. REGISTRATION: Online registration is available via AthletePath.com. 5 race Series discount passes are available. Go to www.socalcross.org/register for details. Online registration closes Thursday December 13th at 11:59PM (Pacific). Race Day registration opens at 7:30am then 2 hours prior to each race wave start then closes 20 minutes prior to each wave start. CYCLOCROSS RACING AGE: A riders racing age for the 2012-13 Cyclocross Season is the 'racing age' theyll be the year of the CX World Championships which take place February 23, 2013. Your racing age for the entire cyclocross season running September 2012 through January 2013 is your age as of 12/31/2013. RULES: Event will be held rain or shine. No refunds. Bicycle and wheel changes are allowed in the designated pit areas only. Helmets required. Water feeds are allowed. Cyclocross or hard tail mountain bikes (no bar ends) are best for handling the terrain and obstacles on course as well as getting on the off the bike. Mountain Bike pedals and shoes are preferred or flat pedals with tennis shoes for beginners. This event is held under American Bicycle Racing Permit. 2012 ABR rules apply. www.AmBikeRace.com ABR is Dedicated to Promote, Educate and Service the Sport of Bicycle Racing unfortunately USA Cycling does not recognize non-USAC sanctioned events in their ranking and upgrade point structure as there is no reciprocity by USAC. Warming up on the Course Once the last rider has crossed the line in the current active wave, the race officials will allow riders to pre-ride the course to become familiar with route and obstacles. Please enter the course past the finish line and do not pass or enter in front of riders who are still racing on the course. As in the past, while pre-riding do not cross the finish line while the timing system is running and do not pass active racers on course. There will always be enough time to complete one lap before the next race starts. Once the next race has started, warming up on the course is not allowed. CATEGORIES: Senior (over 18 years of age in 2013) and Masters categories may be listed by ability as well as age. Ability categories are as follows. The Prestige Series discourages sandbagging. USA Cycling does not recognize American Bicycle Racing events for cyclocross category upgrades or national ranking points. A B C USAC Road/CX Cat 1 and 2, MTB Cat 1/Expert and anyone else who chooses to race at this level. USAC Road/CX Cat 3 and 4, MTB Cat 2/Sport and anyone who chooses to race at this level. USAC Road 4 and 5, CX 4, MTB Cat 3/Beginner. New racers or those trying cyclocross for the first time.
