Business Branding
Branding your business is a necessary step. Branding does not just include a logo. Branding is auniversal format to the way your business is represented. This needs to come out in everythingyou do. Every graphic you use, photo you produce, listing or page you create needs to have thesame "feel" to it.How do you create a branding strategy for your company? You can do this by implementing a few rules when it comes to the representation of yourcompany. The first thing should be a logo or an image your buyers can easily and quickly associate withyour company. It does not have to be complicated or even have anything to do with what yourcompany does. Does the Nike "swoosh" say anything about shoes? Of course not, but it is one of the most known brand logos in the world. You could say the same for the Adidas logo or eventhe Pepsi "Ball". You can, of course have the logo represent something about your company.Apple Computers makes great use of their "Apple" icon, and AOL was fairly clever with theirlogo which is nothing more than the simple shapes of an "A" and an "O" blended together. Evenstill you may not want an icon as part of your branding. This is just fine. let your company namebe the logo. People and Rolling stone Magazine are very good examples of a brand logo that isstrictly derived from the company name. Although this is very popular in publishing you can alsofind this strategy in other markets such as musical instruments (Zildjian and Fender), consumerelectronics (Sony and JVC), and more notably the online industry (Google and Yahoo). The ideahere is to create an icon that people instantly recognize. The Next step is equally important as the first. You need to format the pages, listings, emailadvertisements, and even your content or text exactly the same across the board. Now, it isunderstood that a listing has a different size and shape than possibly an email advertisements. You can still format it the same by using similar colors, graphics, or layout. If your listings allhave an overall orange feeling to them you need to apply this orange concept to the rest of youronline persona. Always place the logo in roughly the same spot. DO not change up the logo afteryou have implemented. If you feel a need to change it do it over a long period of time and bevery subtle. You can look at the Windows icon or the Apple logo over time for an example of how to do this. Always place the content in the same or similar location. Think of it as an overallmarketing package. If you had an advertising agency create a marketing package for you theywould do this. All of the billboards, TV ads, magazine ads, or online advertising would have thesame overall concept and feel.Format your photos to always be the same size. ti is also best to photograph the items in the sameplace with the same backdrop and base. The same placement and angles is also a good idea.Place these photos in the same or similar location every time. This is a must. All policies, contact information, or any other company info should be formatted identical andalways place in the same location. The bottom is usually the best place for this. This allows them
to know where they can find the policy or contact information no matter what listing oradvertisement they are reading. The best idea is to create templates that are pre-formatted and just need photos and contentplaced when needed. Using the same template every time ensures a cohesive nature to yourbusiness which is the goal.
Business Financing
Even though you are starting an eBay business that could, in theory, start very easily with little tono money at all some people will find that they have a need for some startup capitol. In this caseyou may want to consider the information below:The initial financing is obviously a very important piece to the puzzle. It's always a good idea tobuild the business on your own funds. You can do this buy living on a lean budget. Cut yourpersonal costs as much as possible. Try and save up enough to keep the business going at leastlong enough to start showing you a return on your investment.Obviously this is not an option for everyone so you may have to look into other funding options.Other options include but are not limited to:SBA: The Small Business Administration is a good place to go for funding. They providegovernment backed loans specifically designed for small businesses.Credit Cards: Many businesses have been built on personal and business credit cards. This can bea slippery road if you do not manage the funds carefully. Use your best judgment when dealingwith credit cards.Terms: Many of your suppliers may offer you a credit line or terms for services or products. Anexample of this would be an office supply warehouse that bills you for the products you buy andallows you 30 days to pay the balance.Sweat Equity: A trade service to help get whatever it is you need.Family and Friends: The people you have strong personal relationships with may not have anyproblem loaning you money. They usually have a good idea about how trustworthy you are andmay be more inclined to loan you the money than a bank would.Any one of these options might be a good source for additional funds to get started. You caneasily implement one or these entire if needed. There is one final school of thought when itcomes to funding for a new business and that is to start small. Start small enough that you canmanage the funding on your own and as the company and the profits grow, increase the size of your business. This is a very nice way to get started as you do not have anyone to pay back asyou start making money.
