Homelessness in Morris County
Director Chegwidden asked Ms. Von Aulock tointroduce the homeless service providers to theBoard.The representatives discussed the part theirorganizations play in helping the homeless, froman emergency assistance committee, outreachprograms, and collaboratively working together tomeet their needs. The members of the HumanServices Advisory Council work with the agenciesto identify gaps and monitor services. They arevery appreciative that they are able to use the ninehouses on Ruth Davis Drive provided by theCounty.December 6 is Project Homeless Connect takingplace at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Thehomeless will meet all the service providers there.Freeholder Murphy noted that Morris Countygovernment is all about helping people in the areasof health, public safety and protection.
The Law Enforcement study, being preformed byPolice Executive Research Forum will begin withinterviews in November.The Chatham Borough Administrator has written aletter seeking the timeframe for completion of theMIRS Interoperable Radio upgrade. This project istargeted for completion by years end. This willinclude a tower that is designed to improve thatareas communications.Orientation for the new freeholders will begiven on November 12 and 19 in theevening. Department heads, constitutionalofficers and the Clerk of the Board havebeen asked to present.The Drug Court graduation is scheduled forOctober 25 at 1:30 p.m.Assistant Administrator’s ReportMs. Buchanan will be meeting with thestaff of Law and Public Safety regardingpotential upcoming storms.
COUNTY COUNSEL’S REPORT
There are no ordinances for introduction orfinal adoption for this evening. Hisdepartment has reviewed forty-threeresolutions.
He noted that the Star Ledger ran an articleon the Juvenile Detention Center’s equineprogram.This is the fourth year in a row that theState found the Juvenile Detention Centerto be in full compliance with nodeficiencies. Some of the qualities notedare access to staff; residents are treated in arespectful manner and the fact that this isthe only detention facility that has been infull compliance four years in a row.Please pass on the Freeholder Board’scongratulations.
